Oh I don’t know maybe get him to attack instead of firing away when he can’t hit shit? Why even have a coach?
“Get him” to? He’s not a ventriloquist . What makes you think he or the assistants aren’t telling Tatum those things on the bench.

Maybe he should tell the team to hit more shots too while he’s at it.

I hate to go all DeJesus, but the Hawks played really well tonight and Snyder is a dynamite coach. Sucks to lose that game as it was totally in reach but the Hawks’ timing to get hot was unfortunate.

I think it's innate mentality. You shouldn't need to coach this. I mean I'm sure the coaches do.
I think you’re right. God knows how much Tatum worships Kobe.

They really should just let Al run the show late but they never do that either.

They should have run this fucking team off the floor, from the start of the game to the end.

Without Murray in the lineup, they had to run Hunter out there for 44 minutes, Young played 42 minutes...

We're 8-9 deep, run and run and run like your fucking hair is on fire...FUCK

As shitty as the Celtics were it still took a lot to beat them. Atlanta just wouldn’t miss. 7-10 on threes in the fourth quarter, and they ended at 47 percent. Hit all 10 of their free throws too.

Credit to the Hawks for taking advantage.

Up by 8-12 for most of the 2H is not “in reach.”

They fucked around and found out. Hard to envision this team winning a title right now, unfortunately. Just stupid, stupid basketball.
You’d think they would have learned this lesson by now. But nope three different coaches and same old fucking shit.

Weird how the Hawks keep getting hot on us. We’re so unlucky…

I generally think the Mazzulla hate is an overreaction and unfounded but I do have a hard time imagining that effort with Udoka on the sideline. I don’t remember that being much of an issue in the playoffs last year.
His love for Marcus and his refusal to change lineups or call timeouts down the stretch (perhaps not effective) is frustrating.

It does feel like he is holding White back at this point.. I think most coaches would have built on his stretch when he was basically the third or better player on the team while Smart was out..

I seriously want an explanation for why this keeps happening.
De'Andre Hunter is eating his lunch just like Wiggins did in the finals. Tatum can't seem to come up with the answers against certain defenders. He's shot 40, 40, and 38% over the last three games. Dude is on tilt.

Nah, that wasn’t like what we watched tonight. That was an inexperienced team with some key injuries running into Steph Curry playing out of his mind.
They did the exact same thing last year against Miami, the difference was Butler missed the shot Trae hit

Blake is not the reason they lost but they were a handful of possessions from stretching the lead to 15+ and putting it away and it put us in an awkward position with a subpar lineup and helped it stay close.

They had a 3 on 1 to go up 15 and it ended up in Blake’s hands and he got swallowed and led to two the other way. One of many little things.

Not playing your best players isn’t a little thing, though.

The missed FTs by Jaylen really, really hurt. He was also the best player on the court so I am not going to ding him too much.

@Deathofthebambino brought it up earlier but Tatum had multiple momentum killing possessions and decisions. He slowed play down when they were being effective by running.
I am still fucking mystified at his decision to launch a 3 from the logo at the first half.

If our best player plays even a mediocre game this is a laugher. Fuck, if our best player plays even a normal bad game this is a laugher! Instead, he basically peed down his leg the entire night and they lose by 2

I have no confidence in this team in a close and late situations and I feel like that is kind of a big deal in the playoffs. Probably overreacting because this loss absolutely sucked but it may be a fatal flaw.

Also, the complete lack of effort defensively is so infuriating. They have been doing it all year for stretches but always brought it against the better teams. Figured it wouldn’t be an issue in the playoffs. Guess that was wrong.

The fact that Brown was on Trae for the last shot was a mistake. They ran the same play the Celtics have run with Tatum in games down small with short time. Pass into the backcourt, catch and dribble into a game winning shot. They let it happen, and Trae had hit one from that distance like a minute before. Put White on him, double team and smother him, make them pass it away knowing they had to pass it away.

He shot that from almost 35 feet, hat tip.

He also had two fouls in five minutes which paved a golden road to the Hawks getting into the bonus with three and a half minutes left.

It was a hell of a shot, but they saw him hit the same shot with very little time left in the quarter. He had the range. Don’t let him do it again.

Yeah didn't understand why they had Brown out there against Trae, rather than White. And then no double. With 7 seconds and change, Atlanta had to work fast. Instead they got the play exactly as it was drawn up

Derrick White is basically the guard version of Al Horford in his prime and we make him a spectator in favor of guys with miles long track records of bad decisions and sloppy play in close and late situations.

I mean.. the Celtics have been in the ECF 4 of the last 6 years.. so they're doing something right. And they're still up 3-2 with home court.

It sort of feels to me as though down 1 with the other team getting the ball at half court and enough time to do anything, that a 30 footer is not something you mind. Two points beats you, and so you have to protect everything. I guess once he takes it in the back court you know some options are off the table, but dang — a 30 footer seems like something you live with when drawing a foul or hitting any 2 point basket wins the game.

Double him up back court, knowing he has to find an open man. Control the options. Instead, they gave him a set play that had worked minutes before.
Yup. I don’t buy the hat tip. I want someone else shooting. I want Trae being forced to drive. I don’t want him to be able to step up and take a shot. I don’t care how far. It’s a shot that’s in his bag and you let him do what he wanted to do.

There should have been a stretch that they got three stops in a row and put the game away. They couldn't. Kept giving up threes.

They did a thing they've done for years, which is pack too many guys in the paint helping on drives and leaving corner threes open. Happened to Rob once or twice.

They lost because they took so many dumb threes off the dribble. 37-54 from two vs 12-38 from three and they just kept taking them. Playing a smart game would have overcome Tatum’s crap performance, bad refs, terrible foul shooting, questionable lineups, and the Hawks being on fire. Totally perplexed that they keep making the same mistakes as if they have learned nothing.

This is what I come back to as well. I understand putting the ball in the hands of Tatum and Brown in the regular season, you’re trying to grow their games as initiators. But they’re not at a championship level there at this point, have the offense initiated by a guy who’s going to make the right decision and get them the ball in advantageous positions.

That last shot was what, a 30% proposition max? I’m good with giving up a low percentage shot there knowing that if he misses it’s probably a long rebound and game.

They just play drop coverage now for some reason. We just have to hope the offense is enough to carry them because it doesn’t look like it’ll be the defense.

Philly is a different kind of team given Embiid so maybe it matters less there.

Joe Mazzula’s terse responses and relationship with the media only works when they are winning. It comes off as arrogant, and the team plays with arrogance and complacency.
