Nice, nice, nice win.
But why did Milwaukee play for just one run in the eighth? Also, why is their bullpen even worse than the Sox's?
I was wondering that too. Still in NL smallball mode despite no pitcher hitting? Or perhaps they have great confidence in their pen and they thought pecking away and then leading by one would be enough?

3 straight series wins over 1st place teams. Not many breaks in this schedule with every AL east team looking good.

Yoshida finding a groove, along with the rest of the offense is good. The pitching hasn't been terrible, except I still want to see Kluber somewhere else.

I think we can be cautiously optimistic

LOL. I almost used this rhyme earlier in the season, but it felt a bit forced.
No doubt it'll work its way in someday.

And by the way... thanks to everyone who has taken the time to comment on a poem this year.
I have been struggling mightily with inspiration for writing (and life in general) and started these poems as an attempt to shakes off the blues.
Sometimes the poems come easily - and sometimes I spend way too many hours on them - but knowing that they connect with a few SoSHers certainly makes it feel like a positive use of my time.
Hey I could have went with

I'm sorry haven't commented on a poem, yet. But I hope to see some of them.

Who can watch a 9 run inning when the Bruins are in a potentially crushing blow game?

EDIT: crushing blow confirmed

But us it true that today Yoshi became a true Red Sox?

In the stadium, the fans all cheer,
As Masataka Yoshida steps up to the plate.
His focus is clear, his aim is true,
He's ready to swing, to hit the ball great.

The first pitch comes, a crack of the bat,
And the ball goes soaring through the air.
It's headed for the fences, it's outta here!
Yoshida's hit a homer, what a player!

But he's not done yet, there's more to come,
As he steps up to bat once again.
The bases are loaded, the pressure's on,
Can Yoshida hit another one in?

The pitch comes in, he swings with all his might,
And once again, the ball goes flying high.
It's a grand slam, the crowd goes wild,
Yoshida's done it, he's reached for the sky.

Two home runs in one inning, what a feat,
Yoshida's left his mark on the game.
A hero to his team, a legend to us all,
Masataka Yoshida, we'll always remember your name.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
I have seen him pitch. Even well, once or twice. I knew what was coming here.

The team is on an 88 win pace.
Ort has had some excellent outings. He's also flirted with, or actually bedded down, disaster.

At this point the burden's on Ort to establish himself as a quality relief option. If he does not, he's fungible - that's just a matter of statistical fact.

I'd love to see him get off the tightrope and roll out a string of solid relief stints. But then again, I'm partial, as I love sea lions. Ort! Ort!
