One of my favorite plays in hockey is when a shot is saved on a net so wide open that the ref is compelled to emphatically wave it off as if to say “I know it’s batshit crazy that he didn’t score but I can assure you he did not.”
Underrated comment. This iteration only gets partial credit because the ref was doing it for everyone else's benefit--in other words he was tracking the play and considered the possibility of the save. When the refs eyes get wide and he does the double wave off is when you get the full effect.

I like that the Broons are good again. This place is more fun when they're rolling.

You seem to be really insistant on re-defining things that have already happened as something else because they make you look like a dick.
Weird, because I went out of my way twice to make sure that my post was absent any diskishness, while still trying to express my intrigue at the change in my/our perception of the team.

And while my post may *seem* that way to you... your post is just an example of you being a dick. No worries, I won't quote you again - even when (as in this case) I thought your original post was spot on.

Why not? Shed Coyle's salary and maybe DeBrusk and we are in the ballpark. Trouble is, do we need to keep him with Krejci who makes a bundle?
If Krejci is back next year, it will be at a reduced number. So if you can get Krejci back at 2 years $10 million, that $5 million AAV saves $2.25 on the cap right away. Now factor in the $1.25 (at least) that will be saved on the goalies next year, and you are at $3.5 saved. Hall currently counts for $4 million on the Bruins cap. So they have the cap space to do a 4 x 7 deal for Hall, and resign Krejci and probably Rask as well.

Fluto wrote an article in the Athletic about what he thinks are the Bruins expansion draft plans. It is a must read if you subscribe. If you don't, he thinks we are going to expose either Smith or Ritchie, and one of either Lauzon, Zboril, or Clifton on D. The new guys and Krejci and the goalies are discussed.

I can't access that article CSP. The Bs have to expose a goalie who's under contract for 2021-22 (or is an RFA and has received a qualifying offer by the time of the expansion draft). Fluto must be saying that that goalie is expected to be Callum Booth, correct? Swayman's otherwise exempt from the draft and Tuukka and Halak aren't under contract for 2021-22, and I would think that they wouldn't want to expose Vladar.

Yes that is exactly what he said. Not sure how much I can quote without getting in trouble.

It's risky to assume players will take hometown discounts, but I'm thinking they end up bring back Krejci and Hall for a combined hit for around $10-11M. Hall has wandered around the hockey wilderness long enough that he may be willing to take less to fit in the cap and stick around.

That would be nice. Hall's 2018 MVP, followed by some down years, still got him 8 million from Buffalo. His agent could think Hall is playing his way back to the big time.

I think the Buffalo contract plays to the Bruins advantage. Hall sold out for money and had a miserable experience. I'm just guessing, but I imagine that if the B's win a few rounds this will be the best hockey experience of his life and he'll think twice about going to the highest bidder. His agent will need to do what he wants at that point. Bruins are fortunate to have the leaders of the club on below market contracts as examples.

FWIW, I don't think he sold out for money. It sounds like he mostly got impatient. He wanted to sign here but the Bruins told him he would have to wait until they moved money to fit him in. He decided he didn't want to wait. I don't get the sense he pivoted to Buffalo based on the $8 million he signed for. I don't know what offers were on the table, but I'm fairly confident he could've gotten more term and thus guaranteed money elsewhere (CBJ and NSH were rumored to be involved with long term deals).

I think he was legitimately intrigued by playing with Jack Eichel and also reuniting with Ralph Krueger. He probably had some concerns about the state of the Sabres and their contention window, so he hedged his bet by signing the 1 year contract. That gave him an out if things didn't go well.

This should be the goal to attempt to get Krejci and Hall for ~ $11-12M next year.

I'd rather let Krejci walk and go after Landeskog, RNH and someone like Barrie with all the money they'll have.

I love Krejci, but it's time to move on.
I tend to agree with this. Krejci looked like he regressed significantly before Smith and Hall were added to his wings, so I don’t buy that this is all about him. He’s a very smart player, and a Bruins legend, but I agree I think there are better ways to use that money.

For example, if you had to choose between re-signing Hall or Krejci, would anyone choose Krejci? I would not.
