Everything we read about Valdez in the scouting report on display here. A hard-hit ball in his first AB and atrocious fielding.

Stating the obvious, but some of Bloom’s mlb roster decisions are hard to defend.

Why not just bring back Rich Hill who loves being a Red Sox, is still moderately effective and may be a good mentor to younger guys on the staff?!
Yes. Kluber is the kind of move that Chaim has to answer for and it may cost him his job.

If the kids are ready, let them play. Valdez has already shown me more in one game that Arroyo has all season (even with the 2 errors)

One thing I like about Brasier, he just takes the ball. Close the game? Sure. Down 5 runs? Sure. Same demeanor. Right after guys, even if he is turning around and watching it hit the seats.

I guess my faith in Kluber was misplaced. When can we shoot him from a canon or something?

Cora’s got strengths, but getting a team to play sound baseball doesn’t seem to be one of them.
Part of it may be that defense is a "skill" that many players on this roster lack. (Duran, Valdez). That said, the decision, for example, to put Hernandez at SS is likely on Cora.

Is it skill, though? It seems to be mostly mental lapses, bad reads, and poor communication.

I wonder to what extent the constant shuffling of personnel and a bunch of guys changing positions every other day impacts team defense. Imagine that many of these guys have not played a lot together especially in the various positional combinations we’ve seen recently.

For everyone's benefit ;) , I'm not going to rehash this. I am firmly in the "those are skills, too" camp. Partly because I think they are ("you can't 'un-coach' stupid"), and partly because to think otherwise suggests that the players aren't being coached on these things (a suggestion that I find really unlikely.)

Oh, for sure. Obviously Cora can't turn water into wine. I have no idea how to quantify the impact of a coach effectively harping on getting the small things right. We know it does make a difference, but I'm not sure anyone can say just how much difference it makes if the coach is preaching to a team loaded with subpar players at those aspects of the game.

I will say, post-2018 it seems to be a recurring issue for Cora managed teams. But like you suggested, I doubt that's 100% on him.
