Good one for the early tilt- Villans hosting Magpies. Emery quietly has AV at the top of the form table since he took over.

Other than Chelsea - Brighton every game matters this weekend at one or both ends of the table.

20 seconds in, Watkins just shrugs Burn off and puts it past Pope… and onto the post.

Has there been a bigger redemption story than Ollie? Guys a fucking beast at the moment

On the flip side, has anyone damaged their own stock more than Anthony Gordon? Im delighted to be able to root against him now. Wonder if Howe will start him at Goodison in two weeks. He’s going to get slaughtered by the crowd there

At 12’, Jacob Ramsey bangs it past Pope. Villa has the eye of the tiger.

Stoppages for injuries and yellow cards has taken a bit of the sting from the game. Which favours Newcastle. Villa were flying. Newcastle are back in the game now. Villa should have got the second when their tales were up.

Bloody good match though. Can't believe how quickly Emery got these Villa players purring.

Villa just picking Newcastle apart in the 2nd half.

One goal disallowed for a sliver of offside, and now one that counts. Villa passing around a series of black and white traffic cones.

True enough.

Gordon might do well to keep his gripes about not getting enough starts out of the public domain in future. Can't say he did much of note in his 55 minutes of play.
He got the dreaded sub-off-after-being-subbed-on last time out.

He's a fucking head case.

Gordon thinks he’s Jack Grealish that doesn’t get the calls. Everton fleeced Newcastle by getting a dime for him.

McNeil gets an equalizer. Showed a bit of desire to get his shot off. Good grief. Everton have been mince, but it's goals that count.

EDIT:Credit to McNeil, he's done all he could this half to try and make things happen. He just needs a few more Everton players to be on the same page.

Scoreless at the half between Crystal Palace and Southampton. Fairly even so far though SH looking pretty solid in a game they likely need to win to have any hope of avoiding relegation.

Spurs were dominant for the first 20 minutes or so. They've been sleepwalking ever since.

Southampton with some chances in the first half but seemed to be clearly pressing. Now down 2-0 on two Eze goals. Palace looking good and Southampton in real trouble right now

Oof, Southampton THIS close to cutting it in half with a shot off the post. Palpable frustration from them right now, understandably.

Just not deep enough a squad. DCL, Doucoure, Onana, and both RB out- not enough quality to plug in.

Maupay got himself into some great scoring places and completely botched them. He’s been awful.

Between the Dortmund ending then that Tottenham ending it’s been a pretty wild 45 mins on my television

Bournemouth took all three of their chances incredibly well. Really impressive job by the Cherries, as it has been all season given their expected talent.

Atlético has not lost since Joao Felix left while Chelsea has been garbage during this time. I sure hope Chelsea thinks spending more money on Felix is the right move this summer.

He’s the perfect Chelsea player - incredibly expensive midfielder from European league who is somehow underrated and overrated at the same time.

Just saw a replay of the second Spurs goal. Are referees in this league incapable of calling anything against Harry Kane? In what world can that goal stand with Kane blocking the keeper’s view from an offside position?

And Richarlison is another piece of human garbage.

Justice well served with the Cherries pulling it out.

3-0 City after 25’. They can score as many as they want. If they wanted to score 10 or 12 they could.

First goal was a strike from distance by Stones. If he’s hitting those then what hope do Leicester have against the likes of Haaland, Grealish, Mahrez.

You know I heart Richy but otherwise I’m with you. Kane and Son are shit merchants and they get away with it imo because they look like 12 year old boys.

Refs shouldn’t whistle Grealish getting fouled unless there’s blood. He’s so talented but not fun at all to watch. James Harden-like

Yep.

That they got pulled out of the mire by Roy - and he turned them into an attacking machine- is really something.
I was very much against them firing Vieira. What I’ve seen from this team since then has been unreal. Eze is a new man, Olise has been better. When they fired PV and brought in RH, my thought was “the defense is fine, why Hodgson?” Roy apparently has more tricks up his sleeve with a better roster.

That said, I wonder if it is the level of competition from then to now. But I’m really happy from what I’ve seen. Roy for 2023-24?

Edit: last three games without Wilf for the most part as well…

I think what is more remarkable is the job Emery has done at Aston Villa. Of course Gerrard is the media darling in England and the English press. I thought the way Emery was treated by the press at his time in Arsenal was pretty shit. He’s a talented manager and Gerrard was found out for what he was.
