He couldn't have thrown that from the plate and placed it better. Buzzard's luck.

Well, did my best peeps. Someone start a new win streak tomorrow.

Wish we lost with someone other than Ottavino. He looks hopelessly lost. Everyone, Whitlock especially, needs to move up a rung in the bullpen hierarchy.

Still feel pretty confident in the pen. At a certain point roles will start to shift around a bit as guys continue to prove themselves (or not).

Just glad they showed fire in the end. All you can ask is that they be a tough out every night. Keep winning series.

Only have the radio, so cant see the game, but wtf? Ottovino was at times last year masterful, what happened to make him turn into a pumpkin?

He's a reliever, there's a lot of variability. And his numbers were poor last year, but that's because he got abused in one game for 6 runs. We'll see if he picks it up or if he's toast.

He wasn't that bad. Double to a really good hitter, HBP, whiffs Cruz, and loses on a lucky ass bloop hit.

Shit way to lose but love the fight this team has, especially Verdugo. That at bat was special, as was andriese coming back for the strikeout after that awful call. Don’t like Ottovino, but not a ton he can do about that. Made a good pitch, induced terrible contact, just wrong place

I imagined this stupid fucking song, which reminds me of every horseshit key bloop hit Jeter, Posada, Cairo, Enrique Wilson or whichever other utility dipshit was up to the plate to get a BABIP defying hit against the Red Sox.
Sometimes I still hear the PC Richard & Son whistle whenever someone on the Red Sox whiffs on some bullshit junk with a weak, flailing swing.

Please keep yourself available for clutch thread starting duty. You have a proven track record now!

He's also 35, which, combined with his numbers last year, can make it easy for some to say he's had it. Cora seems to have plenty of patience this year (or always?) so we probably see him some more.

Really wanted this one but it’s hard to complain with the run they’ve been on. Shake it off and start a new streak at home.

NY dumped him because they didn’t trust him against lefties (among other reasons) and it’s impossible to use a ROOGY with the new three batter rule. All three lefties that inning reached, he got the one righty out.

Is that good managing then? If he is useless vs lefties, do not make him pitch in an inning where he must face at least 2 lefties.

Not sure Whitlock would have been off limits, but Darwinzon only faced one batter in the 8th. He could have started the 9th, I think. (Results not guaranteed).

His OBP is .255 and his OPS is .568. Forgive me for thinking there are better options.
You're certainly forgiven. Especially because, looking at it again, I see that he's cooled back down again against the Twins (2/13) after a torrid Baltimore series (5/16, 2B, HR).

Of course, all of these are tiny samples because it's early in the season.

Pending the advent of the Jarren Duran era, I don't think we have a really obvious leadoff type on the roster — Verdugo, maybe? Arroyo? Cordero? — so I see no real harm in going with Hernández if Cora thinks that the role will help Kiké adopt his best approach. I certainly wouldn't give up on that hunch after two weeks, given how tiny lineup effects are.
