New winning streak please. CC can hopefully really help straighten shit out. Losing 4 in a row is a big punch in the gonads. In a short sample size, our half roster has to over-perform until we start getting people back.

I'm having so much fun today...after 25 years I'm replacing my waterbed with something new. It's waveless which means there are all sorts of baffles and pads within, so the hose and pump basically could only remove about 60% of the water...getting enough out so I can actually remove the mattress is proving...interesting

Khris Davis has 10 home runs in 68 ABs and LeMahieu has yet to go deep, but LeMahieu still has a better OPS than Davis (1.061 to 1.021).

German has been NY's best pitcher so far this season, not sure it's close.

Why was he skipped in rotation?
Too many off days.

Also he is still the low man on the totem pole, it's going to suck when he gets bumped out of the rotation for Gio Gonzalez so they don't lose him at his 4/20 optout.

You guys wouldn’t actually do that, would you?

The alternatives are 1) likely lose Gio and hurt the depth with Severino still out or 2) phantom DL for Happ, I guess. Paxton, Tanaka, CC all have spots, so 2 of 3 of Happ/German/Gio unless they go to a six man rotation. It’s a hard decision, glad I don’t have to make it.

Nova gets pulled after a leadoff Gleyber single.

A smarter team like Houston would just have let German try to finish it, although Chapman hasn’t pitched in a week.

First time NY has allowed just one hit and no walks in a home game since Cone’s perfecto in 1999.

Heh:

"CC Sabathia was holding his media session when a loud voice popped up from the back of the crowd. “CC, J.A. Happ here, asking for a friend. How were you able to paint the corners in your first start back?”"

April 13, 2019
July 18, 1999 (Cone perfect gm)
May 17, 1998 (Wells perfect gm)
Oct 8, 1956 (Larsen perfect gm)"

For everything that has gone wrong for NY in the last few weeks between injury and poor performance, LeMahieu and German and Frazier have all decidedly raised their stock from what we thought maybe a month ago, Joe Harvey too in his only chance so far. LeMahieu they planned to play a lot even if everyone was healthy, but the other three could easily all still be stuck in Scranton. German looks like NY's best pitcher right now (maybe Tanaka), starter or reliever, his stuff is insane.

Also, since no one noted it, Chapman was sitting 100 today.

I was watching the highlights and enjoyed the YES color man - Cone? O'Neill? - saying, "if I'm not mistaken, that's called a safety squeeze."

Guessing the Yankees haven't had too many of those in the last 30 years.

Too many walks, but German has only allowed three hits so far in 13 innings, the only earned runs (2) were after he left the game with a 9-0 lead that he took a no-hitter into the sixth in, Tarpley and Sanchez with the merry go round. He has a combined 13 3 3 2 7 14 so far (1.38 ERA, 0.77 WHIP), two perfect innings in relief today with 4 Ks.

This was evidently the last one, Didi in 2015:

I was kind of expecting it actually, I am a little surprised it is that rare. I thought it was almost a terrible mistake to bunt to third instead of first and I actually thought the 3B had a reasonable chance if he went home but he took the out.

Wow, I have no memory of the existence of the guy scoring the run there, Garrett Jones, who evidently had 152 PAs for NY on his way out of baseball at 34 in 2015.

I called a Garrett Jones extra-inning bomb in a game at Seattle that year. He didn't do much other than hit homers.

James Paxton said he’s been putting pressure on himself in his new environment. A talk with his sports psychologist has him back on track. Also, someone pointed out he tipped his curveball grip, runners at 2nd relayed to the hitter in Houston. Who told him? Carlos Beltran.

Someone pointed out after that that Paxton only faced five guys with a runner on second in that game, and those five basically did nothing against him, so who knows.

Regardless, I fucking hate Rothschild. Is he completely incapable of finding these flaws himself?
