Apparently their new-ish football stadium is a dome. Not relevant to yesterdays postponement, but jeez, building Target field without a retractable roof was beyond dumb, doncha know?
But of course, they'll now likely be hosting Super Bowls and Final Fours periodically for many years to come, which almost certainly drove the decision to make US Bank stadium a dome. But yeah, non-sensical to not have a retractable roof for baseball in that climate.Apparently their new-ish football stadium is a dome.
So the team that went to 4 Super Bowls playing outdoors, often getting a home field advantage late in the season or postseason by being used to the arctic conditions when their opponents weren't (like beating LA Rams in the bitter cold, for example) went with indoor football since 1982 and has never been back to the Super Bowl since.
But the baseball team that used their domed stadium to great effect in the 1987 and 1991 postseasons is going with outdoors only.
Based on the opinion in this thread about Target Field and dealing with adverse weather conditions maybe the Red Sox should be looking to replace Fenway with a retractable roof stadium.Seems like this awful weather will be in Boston on Friday. Going to be a long, disjointed week of games
If they ever build a new one in our lifetime, absolutely. If they had been building a new one in 2007-2010, absolutely.Based on the opinion in this thread about Target Field and dealing with adverse weather conditions maybe the Red Sox should be looking to replace Fenway with a retractable roof stadium.
With this table and microphone in the visiting team Zoom Room at Target Field, Alex Cora looks like he's on a game show.
Is there any feasibility in adding a retractable roof to the stadium in the future?Yeah it’s blowing out today. Given the temp, we might actually see a few balls reach the warning track!
As for the lack of a dome, baseball in 35 degrees stinks, but baseball in a dome is the worst. The Metrodome sucked. Retractable would have been nice, but it took 20+ years of wrangling to get the compromise we got. There was no way they would have funded a much more expensive ballpark. (Should the Pohlads have ponied up? Sure, but that’s a different story.). Plus, the site they built on couldn’t fit a retractable roof. Plus, Target Field is awesome and we like it just the way it is, thank you very much.
Not unless they move a road (which runs through a tunnel beneath the plaza and RF grandstand) or light rail or railroad tracks. They really had to be creative to fit it on this site. So, in other words, no.Is there any feasibility in adding a retractable roof to the stadium in the future?
