Josh Smith surrendered one run on four hits (one HR) while striking out ten over six frames. Domingo Tapia was tagged for a run on a HR in the seventh, whiffing one. Josh Taylor walked one and struck out one in the eighth. Jenrry Mejia gave up one hit and whiffed one in the ninth.

Michael Chavis was a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4. Rusney Castillo and Cole Sturgeon each stung a pair of hits in four contests; Sturgeon with a double, Castillo with a blast. Tzu-Wei Lin and Josh Ockimey each lined a single and took a walk in four opportunities. Nick Lovullo singled once in three trips. Sandy Leon and Gorkys Hernandez each hit a single in four sessions. Dedgar Jimenez yielded two runs on five hits and two walks over two innings yesterday; striking out one. Matt Kent went five scoreless innings today, giving up three hits, a walk, and a HBP while whiffing four. Durbin Feltman struck out two in the eighth. Matt Gorst allowed an unearned run (on no hits and no walks) in his 1 2/3 inning stint; striking out one.

Aneury Tavarez thumped a single and a double while drawing a walk in five appearances. Brett Netzer and CJ Chatham each clubbed two hits in five battles; Chatham with a double. Bobby Dalbec delivered a single and two bases on balls in five trips. Tate Matheny managed a single in four matchups. Josh Tobias was hit by a pitch and drew a walk in four jaunts. Interesting first 2 games for Kyle Hart. He's 26 and in AA so not exactly young. 12 ip, 20k/1bb.

Something has changed this year for Hart. In December, Sox Prospects had an article on him that says:

"Hart pitches to contact and doesn’t have the stuff to be a strikeout pitcher...
Hart doesn’t have the most explosive pitch tool, which is why he’s such an unknown prospect. His fastball sits in the high 80’s and isn’t a strikeout offering. He complements his fastball with an average mid-70’s slider and a low-80’s changeup and curveball."

Suddenly, he has 20 Ks in 12 innings. It could just be fluke, but I wonder if he has made some mechanical change.
