Only 2 game sample, but nice to see Williams Jerez off to a good start in AAA and Jake Cosart off to a good start in AA. The 2 of them have big time arms (especially Cosart) it's just a matter of controlling it and limiting the walks. Cosart went 3 innings tonight, giving up 1 hit, 1 r, 0 er, 1bb/4k. His last outing was a clean 1 inning with 1k. He drastically improved as the season went on last year. Jerez has now pitched 3 perfect innings with 3 strikeouts.

Roenis Elias relinquished an unearned run in the ninth, giving up a single, a wild pitch, and a walk while striking out two of the three men he set down.

Mike Miller managed a perfect evening with two singles, a walk, and a stolen base. Mike Olt obtained a single and a double in four matchups. Portland gets off the schneid with a three runs 13th, defeat the Fightins' 7-5.

Boxscore

Kevin McAvoy allowed two runs on two hits, four walks, and a hit by pitch over 5 1/3 frames; whiffing one. Daniel McGrath yielded a run on three hits and a wild pitch, striking out two. Adam Lau walked one and K-ed three in two clean innings. Matthew Kent came out to close the game in the bottom of the tenth, but gave up the unearned run via the ghost-runner with a wild pitch (on a strikeout - batter reaching first with ghosty reaching third) and a sacrifice fly. Kent would give up a traditional runner via a walk before getting out of the inning with a foul popout and a ground out. Jake Cosart would take the next three innings of ghost runner madness. Jake would get out of the 11th despite a Phil reaching on a fielding error thanks to a pair of strikeouts and a fly out. The 12th had two fly outs and a line out to short with an intentional walk strategically placed during the inning. Cosart almost got out of the 13th without the ghost scoring, getting a K and a grounder back at him for the first two outs before giving up a single to center, scoring the ghost and haning Jake with an unearned run. Cosart would K the next man to complete the victory.

Tate Matheny led the offense with two singles, a double, a walk, and a stolen base in six matchups. Cole Sturgeon had two singles and a walk in seven sessions. Jordan Betts blooped two singles in six jaunts. Esteban Quiroz reached four times in seven trips with a single, two walks, and a hit by pitch. Jeremy Rivera reached base on a single and a hit by putch in six appearances. Josh Tobias topped a single in six at-bats. Conrad Gregor and Austin Rei each collected one free pass in six attempts. Danny Mars struck out thrice in seven fruitless ups... but did steal a base.

Portland scored first in extras in the 10th in a non-traditional fashion, losing the ghost-runner on a fielder's choice out at third. A stolen base put Danny Mars at second with one out and a ground out put him at third. Quiroz walked before Matheny drove Mars home with a lined single to left. Betts could not get additional runs home as he lined out to short.

In the 13th, the Dogs scored three times without putting a ball into play. New pitcher Garrett Cleavinger walked Quiroz and Matheny to load the bases (with ghost runner Josh Tobias already at second as play began) before whiffing Betts and Gregor. Cleavinger then went back to the wild side with a walk of Rei, a hit by pitch to Rivera, and a walk to Sturgeon before ending the inning with a K of Mars.

Salem makes their four hits count, defeating Wilmington 3-1.

Boxscore

Bryan Mata managed the first five innings in scoreless fashion, yielding three singles, a double, and three walks while whiffing a quartet. Daniel Gonzalez allowed four singles and a solo bomb to Xavier Fernandez while striking out a quartet in four frames.

Santiago Espinal struck two doubles and scored twice in four sessions. Brett Netzer and Bobby Dalbec each notched a hit and a walk in four appearances; Dalbec with a double. Trent Kemp walked once in three trips; he was subsequently caught stealing. Jhon Nunez knocked a sacrifice fly in three jaunts. Jerry Downs took a pitch to the body amid three hitless at-bats. Kyri Washington, Tyler Hill, and Chris Madera each failed to reach in three appearances.

Drive lose a back-and-forth contest to the Legends, 5-4.

Boxscore

Jhonathan Diaz surrendered four runs (two earned) on six hits, two walks, a hit by pitch, and a wild pitch over 5 2/3 frames; whiffing a septet. Devon Fisher struck out two in 1 1/3 innings, but allowed a run on the only hit he gave up - a bomb to Michael Gigliotti. Fisher also hit a Legend. Lukas Young struck out the side in order in the eighth.

C.J. Chatham continues his hot start with two singles, a sacrifice fly, and a stolen base in four at-bats. Frankie Rios reached twice in four trips with a single and a walk. Ramfis Berroa, Marino Campana, and Everlouis Lozada each laced a single in four treks. Kervin Suarez and Michael Osinski each swatted a single in five matchups; Suarez stealing two bags. Samuel Miranda was hit by a pitch amid three hitless sessions. Pedro Castellanos collected a pair of Ks in five hitless attempts.

Not a crisp game in Lexington as the sides combined for ten errors; six for Lexington and four for Greenville. Interestingly, it was a group effort as no individual player had more than one error.
