Thanks for posting this.....a very cool story.  I never knew the history of that floor, but I always loved older stadiums and arenas.  I can recall in the 80s being fascinated with a few in particular just because they had something cool and unique to them....the Salt Palace (Utah), McNichols Sports Arena (Denver), and especially the HemisFair Arena (San Antonio) stand out.  Whether it was how the stands were uniquely arranged or the color of the flooring, there seemed to be a personality and atmosphere that isn't always there now.  I hope that the next round of arenas and stadiums put the luxury boxes at the top of the venues to bring all of the stands closer to the floor and field.  Not sure it will happen, but I think that it would help to bring that atmosphere back.
