Kicking off with the Oil Derby. I don’t think Newcastle will hold off the boys in powder blue.

Impressive run and goal by Foden there, wonder if he’s back in Pep’s good graces going forward.

Seems like Mahrez is the odd man out atm.

Grealish has no numbers but he’s the straw that stirs the drink.

Think Newcastle are deflating a bit. Their depth snd experience are being tested, as happens at this point of the season.

Studio crew at halftime talked about Barcodes having no answer for City in midfield. So true. KDB Ilkay Grealish stroking it around at will, Newcastle chasing shadows.

Yeah, they are coming back to Earth. I was hoping they would poach the cup before it happened. I think it’s arguably for the best in the long term, because there would have been a lot of pressure to panic-buy if they somehow qualified for the CL.

The worst imo is to get Europa/Conf League. Poisoned chalice for a team in the way up, as opposed to the Sky Six that don’t get CL. If you look at up and comers who got it, going back to Everton under Koeman, like Burnley, WH, it almost always starts a downward slide.

Is Grealish the most hated player in the league? If not, he should be. One of these days someone is going to really foul him and it won’t be pretty.
I’m with you. I just read something about him being one of the most loved players. I don’t get it.

Just saw the replay of Foden’s goal. Like a boy among men on that one. Jeez.

lol Summerville ignores McKennie’s continuation run down the wing and turns it over, nearly leading to a quick Chelsea goal

Cherries put one past Ramsdale at 4’. That’s a long time to keep that bus parked.

Why does spurs have eight minutes of stoppage time
Three different significant stoppages for injuries, including Diego Costa getting stretchered off.

Spurs have dominated the game but have nothing to show for it yet...

My favorite ongoing bit of the Spurs match is the announcers having to pretend that anyone is sad about Diego Costa getting hurt. "We with him well" etc. No we don't! Everyone hates Diego Costa! He's one of the great Premier League villans!

This was also a good one: "When Diego Costa goes to the floor and stays down for this long, you know he's seriously hurt."

Disappointing to see McKennie get jumped over, but Fofana had a free run at that ball. Not Weston’s fault.

Second time he’s gotten a head on one, the first he couldn’t get the right angle though. Wonder if it’s a marking issues with the Leeds set piece defensive scheme.

Nice save by Neto on a wicked volley by White but he was a foot deep in the goal already. 2-2. Arsenal going to get a couple more here.

I can hope. That opening goal was like a perfectly drawn up NFL trick play, you can probably only get away with it once because of the surprise fator, but they pulled it off. Arsenal was just not set up to defend yet. Arsenal has had up to 85% of possession since then but Bournemouth did a great job filling up the box and wasting time. It definitely started breaking up a bit, especially after the first Arsenal goal. Just one more...

Scored that one in Fergie time for sure.
Yup

but Bournemouth can’t complain. They had 3 handball checks in the box, none of which I thought should have been called in real time, but all 3 were at least plausible enough to get called, that they didn’t get a pen on at least 1 was fortunate.

And the level of time wasting was pretty high, I think they earned every extra second twice over.

The great escape is on. 2-0 Königsblauen in Bochum.

Just the small matter of the Revierderby on the horizon.

Palace loses to AV 1-0 after a Joachim Anderson own goal complete with Palace red card. @candylandriots why didn't you warn me it would be this way?
I actually think I did :). As a former member here once told me as I was getting into the sport, “this game, it’s cruel”.

I was at the Union Berlin-Köln match and was hoping for better watching the Palace replay at home. I got through the first half and just got a push notification about the loss. I guess I just saved myself an hour, so yay?

I feel what the announcer said was accurate.. 'apparently they're going to have to catch the ball to get called.. because nothing else is.'

Even on the last goal the defender came out with his hands away from his body almost looking as though he was trying to block the shot.

Not sure if any of the handballs were necessarily a pk, but after the second or third one isn't called you kind of have to wonder what is a handball. The one that took the ball off the line changed the direction of the ball and although unintentional was one I'd usually expect to get called... the one where the guy missed the header I suppose wasn't clear and obvious, but he completely missed his head and his arms were making him wider.. Who knows. I just know that VAR hasn't done Arsenal many favors this season.. and has cost them at least 3-6 points.

Beyond that a Bournemouth defender kicked Tomiyasu's foot, without getting any ball, in the box and it wasn't even looked at.

I think you’re giving a better argued and more nuanced version of what I said- surely at least one of these was a pk?

Yeah.. I don't think we were disagreeing.. apologies for being unclear.

edit: with that said.. as an Arsenal fan I wasn't super upset to not see those called.. while also thinking that surely at least one of them had to be at some point. If that's the standard going forward I'd be happy to not see any of those called against Arsenal defenders.

And here we have the crux of the problem. It probably isn’t even the standard on the day, let alone week to week. I think everybody- players, managers, and fans- would be much happier if they knew what to expect. It changes constantly, sometimes within a match. This is the main source of frustration felt by all.

Given how difficult it is to be a defender I don't envy having to play the position... with that said.. the level of discipline between the two teams is fairly stark regarding hand placement. Arsenal defenders almost always have their arms near their sides with their hands behind their backs when defending a shot. Bournemouth defenders regularly had their hands and arms away from their bodies.

And I agree with you.. there's no clear cut standard...it's impossible to know what's going to be called at any point.. one day the standard is whether or not the defender made themselves bigger... another whether or not they had time to react.. etc. etc. And having a different ref in the booth each game for VAR makes the whole system as unpredictable as normal refereeing.

This morning may have been the worst performance I've seen from West Ham since I started following them. Up there, anyways. Just abysmal. I can't believe there are three teams worse than us at the moment.
Moyes got the "he has the full support of the board" endorsement. He's going to take them down, he's completely incapable of adjustment.

Surprised to see Bruno on the left and Rashford up the middle. Would like to see them switch in the second half with Weghorst moving up front. Bruno doesn’t time his runs like Rashford who could really exploit TAA.

Very fractious half … both sides with chances. Liverpool playing a dangerous (but so far effective) offside trap.

Like to see Jota for Nunez ASAP. He’s offering nothing .. both offensively or defensively.
