When J.A. Happ had a porous postseason, I advocated in this very forum that the Yankees shouldn't bring him back.

That was a very SSS, so hopefully in today's SSS Happ performs better.

A win would be nice.

It was just one postseason game, it was bad but he had a 2.69 ERA in his 11 regular season starts for NY, so hopefully that is more predictive.

Today is the day Mike Tauchman begins his journey to Monument Park.

Boone just revealed a fun fact to the media.

The third string catcher on the roster is.....drumbeat........Greg Bird

Meanwhile Sonny Gray can’t put anyone away in his CIN debut, 5 hits and 4 BBs in 2.2 innings, now out of the game. Good job locking him up long-term, Reds.

On MLB network they paraphrased a quote from Aaron Judge saying that the yankees are going to have to take all the games seriously.

So, what, after one game they were resting on their laurels and half assing it and lost a game to the O's? You've got an excellent team. You're gonna win a lot of games but you couldn't keep focused for more than one freaking game?!

This is what happens when you choose a ‘nice guy’ manager, I saw the same quote and blamed Boone immediately.

The Judge thing tells me how accessible and open he is to the media. And that he is already a leader of this team. Once Gardner and CC are gone, Judge and Didi will run the locker room. Boone’s impact is very minimal. He is the most nondescript Yankee manager since Stump Merrill.

I think you're reading into it a bit much. I think he's setting the tone for the whole year and basically saying they can't take any games for advantage. His quote was only a couple sentences saying he wants to play like their back is against the wall because that's when he thinks they're best.

Edit: And I think he's right. Last year the team would constantly take a big lead and let the other team chip away while the offense went into snooze mode.

BOS won the division last year because they had a more consistent sense of urgency day to day, IMO that comes at least in part from the manager.

Game time around 4:20, I feel bad for anyone at the game.

Seeing no confidence in Happ, with respect to he feels about his stuff, feels like he's to afraid to make a mistake, being too cute.

I absolutely hate day games in cold weather. Completely dead crowd. Add a delay on top of that and a predictable outcome of dead offense, shitty pitching, and no crowd.

The 3-1 pitch was ball 4, Bucknor is a disaster behind the plate, so he swung at a bad pitch on 3-2.
Sure, but he needed a driver to hit the pitch he swung at. Torres on the other hand, there was nothing he could swing with to hit what he swung at.

Yes, Bundy's crap and Bucknor's crappy umpriring have been a perfect storm of crap so far.

Too bad automatic out Gardner is up here, I am already totally sick of him.

"Brett Gardner's 11-pitch walk was the longest bases-loaded BB by a Yankee since Cecil Fielder off Charles Nagy on 6/20/1997 at CLE."

Stanton in any kind of genuine leverage makes me sad. Prodigous, skyscraper clearing home run power, but so often too eager to focus more on the results than the situation itself.

You knew the steal was coming and that throw was 5 feet off the mark
Sanchez’s throwing mechanics are horrible. Not on top of the ball. Throws are tailing to the right. Of course, the runner was halfway to second by the time Cessa released his pitch. Bad defense is not always a one-man show.
