In The Quivering Forest
Opening day is finally here and the Yankees have provided a little video here to get you hyped up.

View: https://twitter.com/Yankees/status/1641232939441684480?s=20

They are going into the season a little banged up on the pitching staff obviously, but this is something they should be able to manage for the first few weeks of the season. Of the injuries to the starting rotation persist, there could be issues. But let's not dwell on that, there is a lot to be excited about, high on that list is the dawning of the Anthony Volpe era in the Bronx. It would not be surprising at all to see the kid get off to a slow start, but hopefully the Yankee fans will give him a little time to settle in.

The other thing to watch here is how Boone is going to manage this roster and how is he going to shuffle this lineup to make sure everyone gets at-bats. Many people have been expecting a trade that would alleviate the logjam to go down before Opening Day but that hasn't happened yet.

Expectations are high and its been a long time since the Yankees have been to a World Series (as our friends here so kindly remind us). But if the young bats (Volpe, Peraza, Cabrera, Dominguez) can provide the spark and the starting rotation is healthy in October, the Yankees are going to be a real problem in the postseason.

But it all starts today at 1pm EST with vs SF (Cole vs. Webb).

I would lead Volpe off and put DJ 5th but since they already said he’s starting off 9th, here’s my guess at a lineup:

LeMahieu DH
Judge CF
Rizzo 1B
Stanton RF
Torres 2B
Donaldson 3B
Cabrera LF
Trevino C
Volpe SS

For those not paying close attention in the spring, DJ has looked healthy (and thus impressive), Donaldson changed his stance about a week ago and has been crushing since, Cabrera has been quietly great, 4 HRs in 53 ABs and a 1.009 OPS.

Posted about this in the other thread, would be amazing if it is Yariel Rodriguez but not sure he is actually eligible to sign in the US yet.

Chilly today in the city, but an absolutely gorgeous bluebird day type of chilly. Won’t be seeing you guys as much this year, which is very good for all of us.

NY is going with a 25 man roster for this one while they work out a pitching move, a seven man bullpen. I'm not clear if Franchy Cordero is on the roster but I don't think so. Tomorrow is an off-day and Saturday looks like it could be rained out, so they have a bit of time after they get through this one to sort things out.

Comes back with three straight Ks, 21 pitch inning isn't great but good comeback after the leadoff walk.

Have the first 9 outs in a game been by strikeout ever before? This feels extremely unique

Cole is only going 4-5 innings at this rate though, 39 pitches through 2.

We still like Gleyber but he’s not quite what the experts painted him to be. Most teams would take his power at second base.

Volpe starts a DP in sixth to lighten Cole’s load. He does everything with quickness and economy of motion. Reminds me of another Bronx-bred SS, Andrew Velazquez. .

Impressive and a bit surprising to let Marinaccio go two innings and 39 pitches, but he looked good.

Amen.

I'm hopeful about Gleyber and Donaldson too. It would be great if my desire to get rid of both of them in the offseason turns out to be definitively and completely wrong.
Or if they rebuilt value so NY could get more for them mid-season. :)

They really should call this early and play a doubleheader Sunday. There are some holes in the storms but good luck getting in a whole game, even the new shorter kind.
