Oh man, if this keeps up I can't wait to hear Klopp's excuses. Obviously it will be that the referee gave Everton everything and Liverpool nothing, but also... perhaps the grass was too long? Or maybe the sun too bright? He can't be expected to have his team score goals against an inferior opponent in these kinds of conditions,

I mean the ref hasn't given them a bogus penalty or the linesman allowed a blatantly offside goal, this is not what he signed up for.

Only that they’re going to end the matchday 8 or 9 points ahead of Spurs with 9 to play am I not worried about losing out on second. They’ve not been traditionally poor, just not class enough.

Gnashing my teeth over the Lallana sub, he's been atrocious. No reason why that shouldn't have been Shaqiri and 10 minutes sooner

Regardless, 3 grade-A chances (two Salah, one Fabinho) inside 12 yards. No excuse to not have converted one. Nice of Henderson to have gone completely missing for the last 30 minutes of the match

California. Duh.
There were about 45 seconds actually played in that 3 minutes, but only 7 extra seconds added on.

Well, if City win out it's theirs, but there's 9 games to go.

One thing I dislike about soccer. You’re at home playing a rivalry game and are completely content to waste time and do petty shit to get a tie. It’s pathetic

Really just a matter of time for Liverpool Everton have looked overwhelmed and the striker can’t win any aerial battles against Matip and Van Dijk. They played same way against City but were able to occasionally relieve pressure
Just coming here after the game but at no point did Everton look overwhelmed IMO.

Liverpool losing the #1 spot because they can't beat a struggling Everton would be delicious.

Overall though Man City has been a better side than Liverpool who have been incredibly fortunate with referee decisions this season, probably gotten then 6-9 points just from that.
If Everton played every game like this they wouldn’t be “struggling “

They didn’t play last weekend so had a 17 day break. Looks like it did a world of good. Beat Cardiff 0-3 Tuesday which is only Cardiff but they looked frisky. Can’t say Everton have become a good team overnight but in these two games they look more like the team that played well Aug-Oct than the dreck of Nov-Feb.

And the wheel stops at THE WIND!!!! If you put your bet down in THE WIND go to the cashier and pick up your winnings!!

Speaking after the game, Klopp told Sky Sports that the weather conditions played a part in their disappointing performance.

He said: “ Very, very difficult game for different reasons against a wild opponent," Klopp told Sky Sports.

"I know people don’t like it when I say this – the wind came from all different directions, you saw that in a lot of situations.

"It didn’t help any football play, especially when the ball was in the air which it was a lot.
I know it’s hard to prepare your team for wild, unfamiliar, unexpected weather conditions at a stadium 2500 feet away from the pitch you play on 40+ times a year. Sounds brutal.

Even as a Blue I like Klopp but if my manager trotted out that excuse I’d wear a paper bag over my head to work on Monday

They improved a lot in the last 20 but to my eyes Evertons midfield had no options and between them and the defenders were taking to just hitting it long to get it out of their end. Much better in 2nd half though and it wouldn’t have been a crime if they had taken all 3. They created some really good chances

Yeah a big part of my frustration is that Klopp’s subs all diminished the overall team performance. Can’t play Milner twice in 5 days at this point and expect results - Keïta or Shaqiri would’ve been the right move in place of Milner (and subsequently Lallana)

And yeah I wish Klopp would give it a rest with the wind and shit. Your best player squandered two prime scoring opportunities - neither from aerial situations - and played a hare-brained floated cross instead of squaring it to Mané around ~70’. Nobody’s going to kill you if you say “we had the chances but didn’t finish” and leave it at that.

Creativity in midfield bern a big problem for Everton in its slump. Sigurdsson has been a passenger too often. Would rather they started Gomes over Schneiderlin but the latter played very well on Tuesday and was defensively solid today. At the least the Everton midfield put in a shift today. They challenged for every ball and the Reds front three did not get sprung that often.
