Also, Chad Johnson has 9 saves on 10 shots.  (The B's have 14 shot blocks)  Why the hell is he our backup?  He sucks.

It's unreal how good Marchand and Bergeron are on the PK. They generate 1 or 2 legitimate scoring chances shorthanded per game.

What a fucking fantastic play by Kelly to Eriksson there.

Finally a penalty call!

We probably shouldn't be surprised about Soderberg's ability. He was a top player in a very good league last year. And appears to be catching his North American groove.

Soderberg fucking exploded to get that puck. They're making this look too easy.

Let's not forget, they have their backup goalie and 7-8th defenseman in the game tonight too.

How the fuck do these guys have this energy? Like a third of them were just off playing in the Olympics and this is their..4th? back to back in the last month. This was a travel back to back game, too! Insane.

Marchand's goal pushed him past Lucic for 2nd on the team in goals with 22. Pretty crazy considering Marchand doesn't have a single PP point this year, let alone a goal. How many teams can say their 2nd leading goal scorer doesn't get any PP time?
Wow, especially considering what a slow start he had to this season... I didn't realize he had climbed THAT FAR back i to the picture.

I'm pretty sure the B's clinch a playoff spot Friday with a win and a Detroit loss on Thursday. They clinch on Saturday, regardless, if they can win both of their next two games.
Magic # on DET is 4, WAS is 1.  Need to eclipse both of those to ensure a top 8 finish (which, barring very specific, and non-applicable here circumstances, means a playoff birth)
Magic # on TOR is 5.  B's need to pass them to ensure they're not a Wild card.
Magic #'s on MON and TB are 8 and 10 respectively.  Pass those two and they're the #1 seed in the Atlantic.

After that, it would be nice if the B's clinched #1 in the east or the presidents trophy, but I don't want them to TRY for it.  If they keep playing like they are, and go into the playoffs playing the same way, I don't give a flying crap what position they are in the playoffs.

Johnson's stats never fail to amaze me for someone who's seemingly incapable of getting post-to-post. The system really is that good at forcing teams outside and eliminating cross-ice looks.

In order to clinch a playoff spot they need to clear Detroit, so Washington isn't on my radar.

I'm not sure how you got to the magic # being 4, the most points that Detroit can get is 103. The Bruins are at 99, they need to win 2 games to get to 103 and I'm pretty sure they have any tie-breaker. Even if they don't have the tie-breaker, the magic # would be 3.

Washington is the 9th place team right now. They have 76 points in 70 games. If they run the table, they max out at 100 points. So the Bruins only need 1 point the rest of the way to clear them (Bruins would hold tie breakers).

Detroit has 75 points in 68 games. If they ran the table for their final 14 games they would max out at 103 points. So the Bruins need 4 points to be out of reach for Detroit.

What's so magic about it? I'd say it's more a result of hard work, dedication, and talent. The HWDT number is 4.
