Bryant alum here…really too bad that a few bad apples make the “brawl”, the story of the game.

I know nothing about these teams. Are they rivals? Is this a continuance of other things?
Not sure what exactly triggered it but small high school-like gym with the visiting teams fans sitting in the same section as the home team for such a high stakes game is a recipe for disaster.

I worked at Bryant up until last month. Been texting with a lot of colleagues who were there.
TLDR:
Bryant fans were the verbal instigators
Wagner fans got physical

Gonzaga locking up one of those four #1 seeds. St. Mary’s had been hanging around until the past couple minutes, but it never felt like they might actually pull off the upset (again).

the mistake was putting the wagner section literally next to the bryant student section, with nothing dividing them. championship game, blowout, that’s a massive recipe for disaster. why the wagner people weren’t on the other side i have no idea.

right here
on the broadcast they said the other side was all season tickets so no room for the visitors. Does seem silly to just have the visitors right there next to the students with no moat or security or whatever.

Logistically speaking, the side with the Bryant and Wagner students is the GA, bench style section. The other side are all chair backs that they charge more for. Bad design / bad retrofitting
Edit: hopefully this is a moot issue as one of the last things that happened while I was there was the board approving a new multi-purpose arena on campus

i don’t disagree but if it means they have to eat a few seats or not give as many out to the visiting team, it’s a better outcome than sticking them right next to overeager students. my dad was at the prior two games in the tourney and said the visiting section was only a couple of rows. tonight they extended it all the way to the top, and brought the cheerleaders, the dance team, and the pep band. i think it’s something they have to revisit.

i’m not a season ticket holder and had no trouble getting a ticket when they had the general sale a couple of days ago. my dad has had season tickets since they moved to the nec (and maybe a few years before?) and thinks if they have 100 season ticket holders total, it’s a lot.

fwiw supposedly they want to put up a 5,000 seat arena and move into a bigger conference.

Put Bryant in Gonzaga’s region so they can lose by 100.
I’m guessing they would need to win a game in The First Four to advance to play the #1. Assuming they play in a Tuesday game they will be a tough matchup for a similar level team with the nations leading scorer and top scoring duo.

Having Michigan +4.5 in parlays really is a kick to the balls on so many levels.

I think the last two days have taught me, what makes College Basketball so fun to watch in March, is precisely why you shouldn’t bet it.
Also had Arizona State yesterday…

Or maybe I just adapt and move to live betting teams that are losing.

Texas blows a 20-point lead on TCU in the Big 12 quarters. Texas isn't a "Bad" team, but they're very definitely not "Good". They cannot shoot. Can't outshoot a team that can shoot, can't outmuscle a team that is physical. They have a lot of fine enough players and play hard, so I think they'll probably be able to defend their seed, but no chance they beat a good team that comes to play.

URI parts ways with David Cox. I could see Bryant coach Jared Grasso and UVM coach John Becker as candidates there.
Thank God on the first part. Oh God no on the second part. I liked Becker as an option before if we couldn't get Archie Miller, but hearing about the stuff off the court with his program has cooled me way down on him. I have 0.0% interest in Jared Grasso for URI. He's an absolute clown, has zero control over his program, and his system is just the Cluess/Iona system that would get destroyed outside of a one bid conference.

With Grasso, is there stuff out there about him having no control over his program? I wouldn't base that specifically on Peter Kiss and what happened this week. On Becker, yes the off the court stuff is very troubling. Very troubling.

It's been an ongoing thing with Kiss at least all year, and a lot of it is seeing his demeanor on the bench when they played at URI this year along with the way the team carried themselves. Reading some things after the incident this week, it seems like the way they were at URI is an ongoing thing for that program and not an isolated incident.

I was at the Bryant/Mt St Mary's game last month and I knew nothing of Bryant going in, other than they had a dynamic scorer in Kiss. He did not play in that game, but their other guard Charles Pride (32 points) was unhinged all game, and was really cussing out MSM's student section. In the second half, Grasso started a verbal altercation with the MSM coach and the officials had to intervene. I came away from the game very unimpressed with him, both as a coach and as a leader of young men, and felt his team really followed his childish lead. There were a few matchups that game that he failed to exploit and felt that the 1 point win should have been by double digits, even without Kiss.

Kiss wasn't playing at that game as a result of a suspension earned two games earlier. Just like he was suspended the first two games of the season. Shows Grasso isn't getting through to the players at all.

#7 seeds took out the #2 seeds in both the ACC and Big 12
#9 took out #1 in the Big Ten
#8 eliminated #1 in the SEC
#8 leading by 9 over #1 in the AAC

Just get hot for six games the next few weeks and you can hang a banner

Bad news for Auburn and Baylor - no team that has lost in the conference QF has ever gone to win it all since it became 64 teams in 1985

URI alum ('95) and Grasso seems like a clown to me. He's obviously successful at Bryant, but that team is an embarrassment with how they conduct themselves. Grasso is either coaching it, or allowing it to happen (and at times, he's part of it).

URI is a pretty solid A-10 job. Good facilities, and Thor is willing to pay a reasonable salary. They shouldn't be settling for clowns or cancers. It's a lot easier to say go find the next Danny Hurley than to actually find them, but that profile should be their direction. A youngish, up and coming coach who's earned success the right way. Elevating Cox after Hurley left made sense at the time, but he's clearly not cut out for it. Get someone who can run a program. I don't even care if there's a mass exodus to the transfer portal, either. Burn it all down and start over.

What exactly is the problem with Becker?
