Mock season has begun. Sox pick 15th, Klaw has us on Brendan Summerhill, college LHB OF.

Brendan Summerhill
School: Arizona, Bats: L, Throws: R
Summerhill is one of the best pure bats in the college ranks, almost certainly a corner outfielder, and lines up with recent high picks by the Red Sox. I think they’re more likely to go high school hitter than college or high school pitcher. I haven’t heard them specifically with Irish but he’d also fit.

Pipeline had us taking HS 3B Gavin Fien. Not sure if the memes would still be relevant by then, but if so, my kids would love it.

15. Red Sox: Gavin Fien, 3B, Great Oak HS, Temecula, Calif. (No. 29)
Though Fien hasn't had a dominant spring, teams haven't forgotten that he ranked alongside Cunningham as the best bats on the showcase circuit and still buy into his offensive upside.

I don’t know shit, and I realize it’s almost always Best Player Available, but the fact that Law has a Catcher going one spot later, and his name is Irish, makes me think that dude should be on the radar.

& for people who actually know about this stuff or are curious about how the draft might shake out, there is a playable mock draft tool:

2025 MLB Draft: Mock Draft Simulator

I don’t know shit, and I realize it’s almost always Best Player Available, but the fact that Law has a Catcher going one spot later, and his name is Irish, makes me think that dude should be on the radar.
I don't either, but considering the Red Sox focus on defense at the catcher position, the fact that Irish has played 32 games in RF & only 12 at catcher this year is a bit of a red flag in terms of filling any kind of catcher need.

This was the Pipeline writeup:

21. Astros: Ike Irish, OF/C, Auburn (No. 20)
Irish can make a case for having the best combination of hitting ability, power and plate discipline among college hitters. As a result, teams would rather have him maximize his offense as a right fielder than try to make him a catcher.

Joe Doyle has the Red Sox taking Fien:

15. Boston Red Sox
Gavin Fien, SS — Huntington Beach
HOMETOWN: Temecula, California
HEIGHT: 6-3
WEIGHT: 200
BAT/THROW: R-R

We simply cannot in good faith allow the top remaining infielder from Southern California make it past the Boston Red Sox. That’s not allowed.
& Marcus Phillips

33. Boston Red Sox
Marcus Phillips. RHP — Tennessee
MLB Draft: Mock Draft 1.0 – Future Stars Series

Phillips is almost 21 & is a starting pitcher who is listed at 6'4, 250 lbs. 3.55 ERA in 63.1 IP, 3.3 bb/9, 10.9 k/9.

Buuuut there seem to be reasons for pessimism regarding his ability to control the running game:
