Heh, was just about to leave but decided to stay for Mayer’s at bat and he hit a bomb to right! And now Nick Decker makes it back to back HRs!
Hey, this post aged badly! Still not striking out very much - and the walk rate is double digits! - but he's also not really hitting. Maybe the underlying numbers tell a different story, but things are not looking great for him right now.

Dobbins (24 & 8 months) - 31 IP (102.2 IP in AA), 3.77 ERA/4.00 xFIP, 7.6 k/9, 3.8 bb/9
Wikelman (22 & 2 months) - 27.2 IP (76 IP in AA), 6.51 ERA/4.84 xFIP, 10.7 k/9, 6.2 bb/9
Bastardo (21 & 11 months) - 37 IP (53 IP in AA), 4.38 ERA/3.49 xFIP, 10.5 k/9, 3.7 bb/9
Helcris (23 & 9 months) - 22 IP (22 in AA), 2.45 ERA/6.45 xFIP, 10.6 k/9, 12.3 bb/9
Coffey (23 & 11 months) - 32.2 IP (90 IP in AA), 5.23 ERA/4.85 xFIP, 9.4 k/9, 5.2 bb/9

I was going to say a 2/1 k/bb rate for Dobbins really wasn't good enough...& then he went put today & got 1 strikeout & 5 walks in 1.2 IP.
It's a little strange because last year in AAA he had 9.8 k/9 & 3.3 bb/9.
Don't think he's been consistent enough or making enough people miss to be a candidate for promotion anytime soon.
Wikelman has the most talent & Bastardo has had the most interesting season so far... but I don't think any of them are really knocking on the door right now.

With Yorke struggling so much in his second year at Portland, I wonder if we're looking at a shake up in the 2b prospect heirarchy? It's way too early to give up on him but if his mediocrity is real, who's up next? Meidroth? Romero? Campbell? I even wonder if Matt Lugo should be moved back to the infield and tried at second given how great he looks offensively this year.
Teel on a tear going .357/.443/.560 for the month of May! And I love his almost .400 OBP for the season driven in part by his ability to walk (roughly 16% walk rate for the season by my calculation). I'm guessing he'd be the number one prospect for a handful of teams
I think they’re gonna have to figure out what to with Lugo. Don’t know how good his D is but I remember him coming up as an IFer. Another month of this kind of tear, and he starts becoming legit.
Since nobody has claimed the role yet, I’ll be the one to start banging the drum for a WOR promotion.
In a perfect world, he tears up AAA as well and allows Breslow to turn Wong into a pitching prospect or two. McGuire gets sent off for a lottery ticket or two. Breslow then finds a decent RHH backup catcher. Then Teel gets a month or so at the MlB level and heads into 2025 as the guy.
I'm pretty sure that Yoely is the 2B of the future and that everyone until then is just marking time until he hits Boston. Even if Yorke begins tearing the cover off the ball, he was always destined to be moved in favor of someone better when the time came.
There's zero reason to move the RHH Wong given that it's likely to take Teel a couple of years to adjust. Unless someone blows them away with an offer they're better off with Wong catching 60-80 games a year and letting Teel cycle through the DH spot with other players they're trying to keep fresh.

Maybe. His K rate is a little on the high side, but I don’t know the trend line - maybe it’s lower now in his current good streak. Or maybe there’s some specific way to get him out that they’d like him to work on. Possibly not, though.
And the hitting is only part of the story here, his ascent up the ladder will likely also depend on how he handles pitchers - do catchers call games in the minors? I genuinely don’t know - defends the position, frames pitches, and controls the running game (am I remember wrong or were there some concerns about that earlier in the year?). I have no idea how he is at any of these things, to be clear. All that said, it’s certainly encouraging!
Incidentally, I noticed that Mayer doesn’t walk very much and he’s running a high BABIP (.355). I’m guessing part of that is he’s hitting with authority when he does make contact, but it’s still maybe just something to keep an eye on as he starts to face more advanced competition.

The lack of walks has been a surprise, but I'm glad to see him hitting well after his injuries/struggles last year. He's also brought the K% down (was 21.5% prior to today's game). If anything, I'm curious about his batted ball profile. He's got a pretty high GB%, a rather low FB%, and a rather high LD%.

That start to AA for Perales was really exciting. 5ip, 2 hits, 7k, 1bb, 1 unearned run allowed. 12 swing and misses, according to SoxProspects. Long way to go for this kid, of course, but this is the kind of thing you see from legit stud starters.

He did start 1 game at 3B this year. But probably not? 2B (23 games) & CF (16 games) seems like a better use of his time right now.

Roman Anthony just won the inaugural Futures Game Skills Competition. Entered the final round (the home run derby round) in last place, hit 6 homers on 8 swings including a bunch oppo which are worth more, and ended in first

Another HR for Campbell last night, up to 378/482/578. When do we start to think he might make it to Boston before any of the big 3? He's older than Mayer and Anthony (5 months younger than Teel), and he's the only of the group that is RH.
I think Teel and Campbell are most likely to be first called up, and it will be driven by combo of positional needs and who they think is ready to take the step up to MLB.
Teel could sharing catching duties to start next year with Wong. They are LHH / RHH, though catching rotations typically go by starting pitcher pairings rather than traditional L / R platoon.
Abreu may have played himself into some job security this year. Apart from that, it will likely depend on which of the Grissom / Yoshida / Story group struggles or is injured and which of the Mayer / Anthony / Campbell group is the best defensive fit and they feel most confident can hit productively.
My bet is Grissom gets voted off the island - he hasn't shown he can be productive or stay healthy at the MLB level across over a full year so far. If that continues, Campbell could be the logical callup to fill 2B, plus provide general positional flexibility.
Story and/or Yoshida could get traded as soon as this offseason if they think Mayer and/or Anthony, respectively are ready to start next year. I'd trade Story - he's injured most of the time which is a huge distraction and creates a lot of uncertainty around roster planning. Yoshida is hitting just well enough, that he might be safe for now.
