Well, you hire Shapiro and it happensI never understood how Ross Atkins failed his way up to being the Blue Jays GM, so this seems about right.
I am absolutely going to work "gang agley" into my vocabulary. At least until I forget about it in an hour. Not "news," but this is fun: the "We Tried" tracker.
Four players were not tendered contracts for the 2025 season and are now free agents:
- JT Chargois, RHP (previously designated for assignment on Nov. 19)
- Sam Haggerty, INF/OF
- Josh Rojas, INF
- Austin Voth, RHP
May I ask what the point of this post was? Are you making fun of his name? Is that what we're doing now?Kikuchi-kuchi-ku
At the very least, he could have gone with "Yusei goodbye, Anaheim say Halo"May I ask what the point of this post was? Are you making fun of his name? Is that what we're doing now?
Because whenever I see his name, I think of 'coochy coochy coo' and maybe fans could call out Kikuchi-kuchi-ku when he excels. You don't have to.May I ask what the point of this post was? Are you making fun of his name? Is that what we're doing now?
The Los Angeles deferralsThe Dodgers and super-utility man Tommy Edman have agreed to a five-year $74MM extension that runs from 2025 to 2029 and contains a club option for the 2030 season, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Passan adds that Edman’s contract includes a $17MM signing bonus, and that some of the money in the deal is deferred.
I guess it looks like a good deal when compared to the one they gave Chris Taylor? How 'super' does a 29-year-old super-utility player need to be to justify 5/$74M, even with deferrals?
Basically the Dodgers’ version of BROCKHOLT!That's NLCS MVP Tommy Edman, clearly they love him.
More like the Los Angeles (Tax) DodgersThe Los Angeles deferrals
Is it an overpay? Super utility or not, he produced 13 WAR in his last 3 years in St Louis. 0.9 in just 37 games for the Dodgers so he looked to be on a similar pace last year.Yeah, feels like an overpay in the abstract, but clearly with deferrals and signing bonuses and not caring about the luxury tax, the Dodgers have decided to just field the best team that unlimited money can buy. Hard to fault them here, seems like how most Sox fans wish ownership would behave.
Super utility players mean that a team can hopefully avoid plugging JAGs into holes that inevitably come up, so it isn’t like he is a bench player for that money, just a guy with positional flexibility.
Certainly makes me more concerned about just how high they are willing to go on Soto, that's for sure.Huh. I mean, that seems like a downgrade from both Manaea and Severino.
I've always thought the Mets would have the highest offer. The question has been whether the Yankees or Red Sox are willing to come close enough to have that not matterCertainly makes me more concerned about just how high they are willing to go on Soto, that's for sure.
Are you confusing him with Manaea? The Montas deal seems on the small side, to take that this early on in the process, for a guy who turned down 1 year/20 mil?
He got a 2m buyout on the option, so he's just costing himself a million to add a second year, and he came in well over projections. Good piece of business for him.The Montas deal seems on the small side, to take that this early on in the process, for a guy who turned down 1 year/20 mil?
Had a $20m mutual option with a 2m buyout. Are you confusing him with Manaea?
The 2m moves the needle a little, but I was just thinking in terms of the option being very similar to turning down a QO, and usually those guys won't sign for two years at less than QO AAV unless it's late in the process. However, the key is that the new deal has an opt-out after the first year, which changes things considerably. He got a 2m buyout on the option, so he's just costing himself a million to add a second year, and he came in well over projections. Good piece of business for him.
Giddy up. Turns 25 in February so should be seeing some big money this time next year. Feels like a potential Yankees move to me although depends on how they address 1B this year.
Murakami also looked a lot more exciting two years ago, he has struggled some the last two years.Giddy up. Turns 25 in February so should be seeing some big money this time next year. Feels like a potential Yankees move to me although depends on how they address 1B this year.
What did you think Boyd would get? He was a case of coming back from Tommy John surgery better than he'd been in several years. The time off helped more than just his elbow. I'm pissed Cleveland didn't match that.He got a 2m buyout on the option, so he's just costing himself a million to add a second year, and he came in well over projections. Good piece of business for him.

Continuing the trend of low/mid tier starters costing more than you'd think, Matthew Boyd gets 2/29. He'd had a fangraphs projection of 2/18.
Had a $20m mutual option with a 2m buyout.
