I never understood how Ross Atkins failed his way up to being the Blue Jays GM, so this seems about right.

The Reds also threw in Joey Wiemer, but It hink they win the trade anyways. Singer is a solid #4 and India/Wiemer is probably replacement value.

Notable non-tenders today include: Jordan Romero, Kyle Finnegan, Austin Hays, Bryan de la Cruz, Connor Joe, Gavin Sheets, Tanner Rainey, Nick Madrigal

Seems on the high side. Nick Martinez has to be wondering if he made the right move.

May I ask what the point of this post was? Are you making fun of his name? Is that what we're doing now?
Because whenever I see his name, I think of 'coochy coochy coo' and maybe fans could call out Kikuchi-kuchi-ku when he excels. You don't have to.

The Dodgers and super-utility man Tommy Edman have agreed to a five-year $74MM extension that runs from 2025 to 2029 and contains a club option for the 2030 season, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Passan adds that Edman’s contract includes a $17MM signing bonus, and that some of the money in the deal is deferred.

I guess the Dodgers have moved past the stage where they produce good players so they don't need to hand out bad contracts just to fill a hole.

How 'super' does a 29-year-old super-utility player need to be to justify 5/$74M, even with deferrals?

Yeah, feels like an overpay in the abstract, but clearly with deferrals and signing bonuses and not caring about the luxury tax, the Dodgers have decided to just field the best team that unlimited money can buy. Hard to fault them here, seems like how most Sox fans wish ownership would behave.

Super utility players mean that a team can hopefully avoid plugging JAGs into holes that inevitably come up, so it isn’t like he is a bench player for that money, just a guy with positional flexibility.

Is it an overpay? Super utility or not, he produced 13 WAR in his last 3 years in St Louis. 0.9 in just 37 games for the Dodgers so he looked to be on a similar pace last year.

Obviously plenty of that is tied up in his D and he's already 29 years old, but 5/74 doesn't really seem like an overpay. I suppose if this is an extension and he wasn't a FA, you could argue they didn't need to do this now and should have waited.

But if Edman was a FA right now I think he would get a pretty nice deal. Much better than another former Cardinals OF that's been discussed here (Tyler O'Neill).

Filing all the holes the Mets have at those rates is gonna make it hard for them to reset their tax even without Soto.

Certainly makes me more concerned about just how high they are willing to go on Soto, that's for sure.
I've always thought the Mets would have the highest offer. The question has been whether the Yankees or Red Sox are willing to come close enough to have that not matter

The Montas deal seems on the small side, to take that this early on in the process, for a guy who turned down 1 year/20 mil?

He got a 2m buyout on the option, so he's just costing himself a million to add a second year, and he came in well over projections. Good piece of business for him.

Continuing the trend of low/mid tier starters costing more than you'd think, Matthew Boyd gets 2/29. He'd had a fangraphs projection of 2/18.

Are you confusing him with Manaea?
Had a $20m mutual option with a 2m buyout.

The 2m moves the needle a little, but I was just thinking in terms of the option being very similar to turning down a QO, and usually those guys won't sign for two years at less than QO AAV unless it's late in the process. However, the key is that the new deal has an opt-out after the first year, which changes things considerably.

Giddy up. Turns 25 in February so should be seeing some big money this time next year. Feels like a potential Yankees move to me although depends on how they address 1B this year.
Murakami also looked a lot more exciting two years ago, he has struggled some the last two years.

What did you think Boyd would get? He was a case of coming back from Tommy John surgery better than he'd been in several years. The time off helped more than just his elbow. I'm pissed Cleveland didn't match that.
