https://forum.soxprospects.com/thread/7520/2024-draft-signing-period

I would be surprised if they don't sign Hansen based on their relationship with Tread, but who knows?

With the addition of Calvin Bickerstaff as a UDFA (see below), & discounting injured pitchers who would likely go on year-end IL, the Red Sox would have to drop approximately 9 players as players need to be on the Domestic Reserve List either when they play a game, or within 14 days of signing, whichever comes 1st.

Thank you for posting those numbers. I was thinking it would take $1m to get Cason to sign and wasn’t sure if we could get there. Me likey.

Yeah, all we're getting so far are photo opps. I think they're planning on announcing everything at once. There's also not a huge rush if they're not trying to get them in games right now because they'll have to cut people from the domestic reserve list within a week of officially signing them.

I believe they're about 9 over if they sign everyone with room to put a couple more guys on the 60-day.

My understanding is the new smaller DRL will push people to announce signings officially as close to the deadline as possible

I found this post on SoxProspects from Addam603. I'm not sure if it's a mobile version issue but I haven't actually been able to confirm any of these #s, but here is it...

Brandon Neely signed for $700k. $178.8 below slot.

Zach Erhard signed for $500k. $130.9k below slot.

Brandon Clarke: $400k. $57.9k below slot.

Blake Aita: 300k. 51.1k below slot.

Will Turner: 250k. $24.6k below slot.

Hudson White: 185k. $9.6k below slot.

Alex Bouchard: 150k

Joey Gartewll: 150k

Griffin Kilander: 60k

Yan Cruz: 150k

Cole Tolbert: 150k

D”Angelo Ortiz: 150k

Ben Hansen: 50k

Montgomery, Tolle, Cason, and Futrell still unsigned from the top 10 rounds. Brooks (11), Tygart (12), and Sprauge (13) unsigned from rounds 11-20. So far, they’ve saved $452,900 on their cap and given no over the cap bonuses to round 11-20 guys. All numbers according to MLB Draft Tracker

Probably just a mobile issue or a me issue then lol

That's what I went to but it only showed the picks & scouting reports, not signings & #s.

One correction, though - they don't get to bank signings under $150k for rounds 11-20. There's no slot value so you don't get savings other than paying less $$$.

So by my quick math we're over the 5% penalty but I'm sure there some rounding errors somewhere since it is only over by 398k

Reports were they'd need extra $ for Tygart, too, though.

I’ll have to double check my math once I’m out of work and can actually pay attention
Over the draft pool by $63,000... or about half a percentage point. They can spend another $460,000 before going over bonus pool + 5%. Only bonuses that exceed $150,000 in rounds 11-20 actually count against the cap.

Ok letting Google do the math for me brings me more in line with the above - looks like there is about $461k left to sign anyone over budget

Final #s are in.

Futrell - $250k
Brooks - $200k
Tygart - $300k
Sprague - $155k

https://soxprospects.com/dh.htm

They came in $7,680 under. I say they take all 20 out for a nice meal with their savings.

Most of them aren't old enough to drink, they could take them to 6 Flags, too.
They're actually almost all exactly 21.

The exceptions:
Cason - 17
Bouchard - 20
Cruz - 17
Ortiz - 20
Hansen - 22
Bickerstaff - 22

Could we have asked for a better draft?! Getting Montgomery alone was huge but throw in Cason, all the arms we desperately needed, and coming in under cost! On top of that, this is apparently the first time (greater than 5 rounds) that the Sox have signed everyone - I guess that means going back to the beginning of the draft in the 1960s?!

Yeah you're not crazy being psyched about this draft. The 20round draft is relatively new as well, so the celebration about signing all draftees for the first time ever (non-covid category) is contextual. But even landing their top-20 picks from a draft is unusual, and this draft isn't loaded with easy signs and randos. 11 guys ranked by the major scouting services, a lot of top-200 on that list. There is good reason to be excited.

Burned . . . Blacklisted
It was interesting to hear Jim Callis, who has always seemed even handed, share his opinions on the draft on a recent SoxProspects.com podcast.

He seemed “meh” on the class other than Montgomery, who he really likes. He admitted he’s lower on Tolle than many others, but didn’t seemed enthused about the upside of much of the rest of the class.

He does a good job noting that lots of folks need to recalibrate how we think of a successful draft, in that a class is a success if it produces a regular starter. Not many, just one.

"I actually hit 98 the same game I tore my UCL,” Bouchard noted. “So that was pretty cool but at the same time, it was also not cool because I was out. I was feeling great during that game. I was sitting like 94 to 96 MPH for most of the game. And then the arm blew out. But I'm definitely looking forward to what everyone says that you throw harder after Tommy John. And it's not necessarily the surgery. It's more just like the work you're putting in to get stronger and get more mobile and take care of your body. So I'm very much looking forward to that. And me and the training staff here are already off to a great start. The Red Sox liked where I was with my recovery coming into the organization. I will just keep chipping away and hopefully hit a hundred when we're healthy.”

Didn't realize that was a prior injury and just assumed we were in the injury thread here cause that's how things be this year.
