I think there's a decent chance he gets claimed. Two of the teams reported to have interest are Anaheim and Columbus who have plenty of cap space. Trouba has declined but he is a veteran, captain, tough right shot D. He's the kind of guy cap flush bad teams with a bunch of young kids love to have in the lockeroom. Detroit is also rumored to be interested but they do not have the cap space to claim him.

It's kinda of been a shitty situation for Trouba. He didn't want to sign long term with the Jets and somewhat forced his way to the Rangers because his fiance/now wife was pursuing a medical career and I believe was entering a residency at a New York hospital. He caught some shit for that at the time of the trade. His contract with the Rangers included an NMC for 5 years which overlaped her program. This is the first year his NMC dropped to a 15-team NTC. They tried to trade him over the summer and reportedly the NTC got in the way. Here we are again early in the year and it's the same thing. Dude has a contractually negotiated NTC. It is not his problem NY keeps working out trades to teams on his list and he is refusing to waive. I do not blame him whatsoever for not wanting to move his familly and disrupt his wife's career. In that sense, NYR circumventing the NTC by waiving him feels scummy but if we're going with "it's business" that's the leverage they've got.

We'll see what happens, waivers is at 2:00pm. I do kind of wonder what happens if he does get waived and then clears. Do they just send him to Hartford? I can't really see a scenario where he just keeps on playing for the Rangers as if nothing happened.

The Rangers got out of two of the worst contracts in the NHL - Barclay Goodrow and Jacob Trouba - without having to retain any salary. I guess there really is a sucker born every minute.

Yeah, It seems like Columbus and Anaheim were the finalists for him but both were on his no-trade list. He refused for Columbus but waived for Anaheim.

This is the shit side of sports. Trouba caught a lot of shit from Winnipeg fans when he forced his way to New York because of her residency. Then he caught shit from New York fans because he refused to waive his contractually negotiated no-trade clause this past summer. It all culminated with an "agree to one of these trades or we'll waive you" ultimatum from the Rangers. He could've rolled the dice on waivers but that probably leaves him in Anaheim or Columbus (who he apparently turned down to accept the Anaheim deal) or in Hartford playing in the AHL. Tough spot. I don't particularly care for him as a player but acknowledge the human side of sports business sucks.

Trouba situation is why I don’t begrudge player holdouts and other tricks to get what they want. As NHL teams will do the same to them in a heartbeat. No reason to tie your hands behind your back just to placate the fan base. The team GM is not going to do it.

Trouba is totally justified in being pissed off. The waiver wire threat is ruthless.

I don't begrudge NHL players using whatever leverage they can create either. Not even a little bit. Feel the same way about the NFL.

But I'm still glad Trouba is off the books and the Shesterkin extension is done.

NFL is even more justified with the non-guaranteed contracts.

and yeah I would rather have Shesterkin than Trouba.

If he didn't want to be subject to the waiver wire, he could've taken less $$ to have a more prolonged NMC... the clause exists for this reason. Blame his agent.

Just like the way Lewis Gross negotiated on Swayman's behalf in the public eye to go from $60-62m to $66m over eight years has given his client a target on his back from his own fan base, for better or worse. Play stupid games etc.

I doubt the have the bullets for him - but god I’d love him on the Bruins. He’d bump Lindholm down to 2C (which is probably where he belongs). Plays with grit. Numerous 30 goal seasons. Captain qualified for when Marchand retires.

He’d instantly bump the Bruins up a tier with his goal scoring and how the rest of the lineup would shake out.

I would love for the Bruins to get him, but it would be extremely difficult to put a package together that would beat out other offers and accommodate his $8.7 million cap hit.

Poitras, Lohrei and 2 1sts maybe? But then how do you clear the money? Detroit isn’t taking back Carlo & Korpisalo unless they add another 1st.

The Senators are big mad at the Rangers for "soft tampering" towards Brady Tkachuk. Apparently stems from a NY Post article that stated the Rangers would pursue a trade for Brady Tkachuk.

A+ content season from the Rangers. It was a little too quiet but when you start 12-4-1 you must let it leak that you are trying to trade two of your veteran stars, deal with the messy fall out from that in the lockeroom, strong arm one of those players into agreeing to a trade, potentially tamper with a player on another team and hand out $92 million to your goalie.

Good bit of business by San Jose. Traded a 6th for Blackwood and turn him around for a 2nd. Georgiev is terrible but San Jose is just buying time until they bring Askarov up for good.

Kinda like what Grier is doing. They've got some pieces.

Askarov is gonna be a stud, I like what Grier is doing as well, building pieces and picks and creating stop gaps so he doesn't rush prospects. San Jose is going to be good soon.
