This Calgary/Vancouver game is amazing. CGY comes back from 4-1 to lead 5-4, VAN pulled goalie with 2+ mins left and tied it up after Hughes blocked an empty netter. Heading to OT now.

Maybe we shouldn’t read too much into the B’s opening night flop (yet).
Avs (8), Canucks (6), Pens(6), and Oilers (6) all surrendered as many in their openers last night as well.

Fun game in Long Island. Max Tsyplakov gave the Islanders the lead on a good 3-on-2, but Josh Doan just tied it for Utah, last 2 minutes there.

Scheduling weirdness -- Capitals playing the Devils. For the Caps it's their opening game. For the Devils it's their fourth.

Between here and everywhere.
The Johnny Gaudreau tribute in Columbus was tough to watch. Beautifully done - but man, just so goddamned sad.

Seeing his coach wipe away tears for the opening puck drop when the team only had 4 skaters on the ice…brutal.

Sabers/Pens, goal being reviewed for offsides taking a long time.

My question is why do they give the refs on ice the iPad to watch? Isn't the decision being made in Toronto by the replay officials?

Colorado already down 2-0 to Tampa 4 minutes in. They’re defensive coverage makes what the Bruins are doing right now look good. That team is broken.

Scary moment in in the Lightning @ Blues game last night, when Dylan Holloway was dazed from a puck to the side of his neck and needed to be attended to on the bench before getting stretchered off.

He's back at the rink today, and dropped the most hockey quote:

“As soon as I got hit, I knew something was a little off, but then I saw we got a two on one, so I couldn’t pass up that opportunity. But as soon as I got to the bench, I was feeling a little woozy, and then I didn’t really remember much from there until I was on the stretcher close to the ambulance.”

Ummm Winnipeg is ridiculously good. They aren't even pulling out these games by the skin of their teeth ala the KC Chiefs. They are completely dominate so far.

Ovechkin leading the NHL in goals at 39 and trailing Gretzky by only 26, will be fun to watch this season. At this place he'll break the record by February.

He'll finish his career with 1000+ goals

Well he's now week to week with a leg injury so it's less likely he'll get it this year, but overall I agree.

Just noticed that of the 12 forwards Chicago dressed tonight, 6 of them were: Taylor Hall, Nick Foligno, Craig Smith, Tyler Bertuzzi, Ryan Donato, and Pat Maroon.

Almost looks like it ramped up off a bit of snow or a skate blade divot... rolling pucks on edge are a bitch
It definitely does, but I think my favorite part (I have not looked for any other replays of it) is that it looks like the plan was to pass it from the defensive zone up to the right side of the entry to the offensive zone, but that player missed the puck so the defenseman scored from ~180 feet away. The whole thing is hilarious to me.

Fake edit: The ESPN story has a better replay, and it's better than I could have imagined. Draisaitl (not the defenseman) was just trying to pass it to center ice, but it got tipped and just... rolled all the way down the ice through everyone. The whole sequence looks like my instructional league, and it's awesome.

Elliotte Friedman: After their 6-2 loss to Edmonton, the Rangers have made it clear they are interested in making moves and shaking up the roster. Among the names indicated are Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba although other options will be considered.

Maybe an old-fashioned hockey trade between the Bruins and the Rangers? Something like Charlie Coyle for Kreider? Kreider is 33, has a 15 team NTC and is on the books for $6.5 million for the next 3 seasons. Coyle has an 8 team NTC and is on the books for $5.25 million for the next 2 years.

Could probably use a singular game thread for the season instead of monthly but anyways

Nashville is 7-13-6. The only team they are ahead of in points is Chicago. Turns out you can't win a Cup on July 1st.
