Okay, maybe they'll end up a few games off that — I like HRB's revised O/U of 50. But the vibes definitely seem good in Warriorland post Klay-departure, between:
As a corollary of the "too many good players and only one great one" issue, the opening night starting lineup is still an open question. We can assume Steph and almost certainly Dray; and Anthony Slater just reported that despite their not being able to reach an extension agreement with JK, he's been tabbed to start on opening night. The other two are anyone's guess, though if preseason is any indication, possibly Wiggins and Jackson-Davis? TJD is slightly undersized at C, so going big with Wiggs-Kuminga at the 2-3 offsets that. On the other hand, you could argue Melton and Podz looked their two best players in preseason. Again: good problem to have.
Overall, they should be fast-paced, aggressive on D, and fun to watch, which is all I really want for Christmas with this team.
- Steph's heroics in Paris.
- Both Steph ad Dray looking fit and spry.
- Warriors crushing both the preseason (6-0) and Summer League (7-1), with all four of the young'uns they hoped would take leaps — Kuminga, Moody, Podziemski, Jackson-Davis — looking to have done so. (Among other developments, JK, Moody, and Podz are all looking much more confident shooting the 3).
- All three of Mike Dunleavy's bargain pickups in free agency — Melton, Hield, Kyle Anderson — kicking ass and looking like perfect fits in Kerrball. Make it four guys if you count Lindy Waters III, a 6'-6" legit sharpshooter who they basically took off OKC's hands for nothing (evidence of how freaking deep OKC is)
- Looney looking svelte and surpisingly athletic, like the guy who used to lock down Harden in the late 2010s.
- Stotts and Stackhouse bringing experience and fresh ideas to the coaching staff.
- Moody crushing preseason, then being locked down to a super-team friendly 3/$39M extension. They couldn't come to tems with Kuminga, alas, but maybe that makes him hungrier.
