Wainwright only struck out 1 guy last night, not sure if that matters. 4 total K’s for the USA staff
Well, if they play Japan, this team isn’t scoring 14 runs. Cuba’s lineup last night was weak. Mexico or Japan will be much stiffer challenges, IMO. Low strikeout pitchers can obviously be effective but the margin for error is lower.

27 people alerted him of his error in replies but he never corrected the mistake. That is even more embarrassing than getting it wrong in the first place.
You can't really be embarrassed when you've been the biggest hack in the industry for 30 years.

Not really the purview of this thread but is US Policy towards Cuban defectors the same as it was or has it changed?

This is exactly who the Sox should pony up for if he decides to make the jump. Wow
They just mentioned that he's not a FA until 2027.
The FA thing is correct, but he can be posted at any time. If he does so before he's 25, he'll be subject to international signing bonus pool restrictions, and I think to some MLB rookie salary cap a la Ohtani in 2018.

Of course those restrictions give Chiba Lotte less incentive to post him before he turns 25, but that doesn't mean it won't happen. And the opposite would be true for MLB clubs - it would be an ever better deal for them, not having to pay much of a posting fee, and getting an excellent and cost-controlled player for a few years.

The more I see of Yoshida, the more I'm puzzled about the apparent lack of interest in him as a FA. I don't understand why I heard so much about Seiya Suzuki and so little (nothing at all!) about Yoshida before the Sox signed him.

I agree. Between his approach and his beautiful swing, I really don't think it's a question of whether or not he'll be a good hitter, but rather just how good he'll be.

Whoa they're not fking around!! Roki is done, here comes Yamamoto. Yamamoto turns 25 later this year and is widely expected to move to MLB next year. He was Yoshida's teammate on Orix and I speculated in the Yoshida thread that there was some 3D chess on Chaim's part by overpaying for Yoshida. Getting YY next year would be amazing.

Haha Arozarena is so cool. Gotta give him that one, crowd was fired up. Nice base hit by Yamada though.

Not familiar with him. How good is he? Feel like the bottom of the order hasn’t done much this tourney.
He's good, decent hitting catcher as Japanese catchers go. But here's Maki to pinch hit - which makes sense, but that's two ugly swings so far.

Damn he smoked that. Really tough to come away with no runs there, while leaving Ohtani on deck.
