The US pool still could end up with all five teams at 2-2 again.

Israel no longer being No Hit! Yay!
I betcha Alonso got complaints for rooting for Puerto Rico in the game vs. Israel. He's bending over backwards to be fair tonight.

Mexico goes up 2-1 in the 7th. If they hold on, the winner of tomorrow’s Mexico/Canada game will advance, along with the US if they beat Colombia.

GBR out at 1-3, they are now rooting hard for the US tomorrow. If the US wins, GBR is 4th out of 5 in the pool and will not have to go through qualifying next time.

Would the US be alive with a loss? They'd be a in a three-way tie with USA, Colombia, and the Canada/Mexico loser. Seems like if they lose a close game, and especially if Mexico wins, they'd be in good shape with the runs quotient stuff? And if they lose by a lot or Mexico loses a low scoring game, maybe not?

Yeah, not sure, didn't feel like digging into that unless it looks like they will lose.

By my math, if Mexico beats Canada and the US loses to Colombia by less than 4 runs (or wins of course), the US would still move on. If Canada and Colombia win, they are out.

Edit- Actually since Colombia is the home team and the US would only record 24 outs in the event of a 9 inning loss, they would likely need to lose by less than 3 runs. A 3-0 score would still have the US advance, 4-1 would go to the second tie breaker (earned runs allowed rather than just runs), 5-2 or higher would have Colombia move on.

Israel has actually scored today after getting a # of hits, so a less humiliating outing for them and their pitching coach, who, according to Tom Caron, is having a birthday today.

p.s. I just saw that Verdugo has a .071 BA in the WBC. Maybe he ought to come home soon.

Puerto Rico/Dominican Republic at 7, winner advances, loser is done.

First, the strike zone was Ginormous; Second, I don't care, b/c I always root for the under-dog (except in Sox games) and that AAA pitcher is definitely the underdog.

I am a little bothered that Devers is getting no reps at third base, since he is DHing in the WBC. I'm not questioning that Machado is better at third, just worrying about what is best for the Boston Red Sox.

the way this game is going, he'll probably be playing 3B at JetBlue on St Patties Day.
