Looks like more of the coverage going on ESPN+ than previous years. ESPN2 starts at 9 PM until the day coverage (Australia time) concludes. Rest of the coverage on ESPN+ at least during the first two rounds.

I seem to remember they usually start slow the first few days, the Monday night playoff game this year didn't help.

21 year old American Katie Volynets has #9 seed Kudermetova in trouble, up 3-0 in the third now.

I feel like I’d also be able to wake up around 630 eastern and watch it live on espn 2 if there were still matches on? With so much on espn + it actually makes me want to avoid the app more out of spite.

I think that will happen tonight, Djokovic and Murray are both playing night matches.

Volynets is a qualifier who has never played a top 10 player before, she lost 2 games in a row to bring it back to 3-2 but then bounced back very strongly and won the next 2, 5-2 now. Kudermetova with some terrible plays to lose her serve just now, a long hard-fought game, four deuces, then she double faulted and hit an easy sitter at the net into the net.

But will espn 2 be airing tennis or the Keyshawn show?
will be interesting to see if brooksby can give Ruud a scare…
Usually I think they stick with matches if they're showing them, Patrick McEnroe tweeted yesterday they'd be on until at least 5 AM every night, but then last night they weren't, despite the high profile Coco/Raducanu match, so dunno.

Gutsy hold to close it out!

I was pretty amazed that Taylor Fritz is the third betting favorite for the men now, after Djokovic and Medvedev.

Fritz has a favorable draw with Zverev not close to 100%. Best opponent he could meet in the Quarters is Ruud. Good chance to reach the semis.

It seems like there is an American in every match today, and a lot of them are winning.

Damn, Brooksby just looked like he maybe hit a wall up 2 sets and a match point. A couple of brutally long back to back points left him just a point away, but also gasping for air. Three points later, back on serve.

Americans 4-3 so far today, all seven unseeded, 3 of the 4 wins against seeds. 4 more are playing currently, crazy.

Brooksby doesn’t recover from not being able to close it, he had three match points on his serve at 5-3. Ruud got up 6-1 in the breaker and finally closed it at 7-4, 2 sets to 1 now Brooksby but not looking great.

3 more Americans playing later, so 14 in total on the same day of second round matches. That has to be a record for a non-host country in a Grand Slam, I think Fritz is the only seed.

Brooksby breaks at love to start the 4th, not that ESPN showed it, and it’s not on streaming because it’s their main match, I guess. Infuriating.

Brooksby finishes it off 6-2 in the 4th, great win although Ruud was very unimpressive.

Fritz in trouble against Aussie Popyrin, no breaks either way for two sets. Fritz won the first breaker but Popyrin came alive in the second set breaker, won that easily, finally got a break in the 3rd and is up 4-2.

7 Americans into the top 32 for the men, 5 more still alive.

Has there ever been a better tennis name than Volynets? Like you couldn’t even make that up.

Brooksby finishes it off 6-2 in the 4th, great win although Ruud was very unimpressive.
3rd year in a row Ruud has had a horrific time with injuries down Under.

Volynets is even pronounced the right way, Tennys Sandgren is pretty good too.

First time two Americans have defeated the top two seeds since the 94 French Open.

Fritz saves a match point on his serve and wins the 4th set breaker 8-6.
And then gets hammered in the 5th, 6-2. He only had two break points the entire five sets, 1-2, Popyrin went 4-11.

You all were right about ESPN, Djokovic in the 4th now and Murray just starting and ESPN isn't showing either.

Novak closes it out 6-0 in the 4th, lopsided score but took him over three hours.

The four highest remaining seeds in the bottom quarter all lost yesterday (#2 Ruud, #8 Fritz, #12 Zverev, #23 Schwartzman) so #24 Bautista Agut is the only seed left there, along with five unseeded Americans, Popyrin and the winner of Murray/Kokkinakis (Kokkinakis serving for the 1st set now up 5-4).

Kokkinakis wins the 1st 6-4, has to be hard for Murray to rebound from that first round slugfest that lasted almost five hours.

Djokovic could play B level tennis in the bottom half and probably still make the final.

Murray broken at love at 4-4 in the 2nd, but manages to fight off some set points in the 4-5 game and break back, now a match again at 5-5.

But Kokkinakis takes the tiebreak, up two sets and looking bleak for Murray again.

I don't enjoy watching Murray like this. It doesn't look like he's lost a step but it feels like it. If you know what I mean. I wish he would adjust his game given his age and physical state.

Whoa, Jabeur lost just now, 6-1 in the 3rd.

Kokkinakis went ballistic after a too much time call in the 3rd but seems back on track now, up 4-2.

Really high quality set of tennis except for that last point. Unbelievable error. Murray wins the tie break 7-5.

Yeah, Murray is playing great, considering he’s playing 26 year olds and he is 35 with a metal plate in his hip.

35 minutes to play the first 3 games of the 4th, long points and many deuces. They said people are waiting to get back in even though it's 2:30 AM there, and they had to stand outside for the whole 35 minutes until there was a changeover.

This one looks like it will go even longer than his 4:49 first round match.

I've always said it's easier for me to understand and digest tennis compared to other sports because I played at a high enough level that I know what it takes to hit the shots these guys are capable of. I can't replicate it, but I understand it (as opposed to say, putting an iron from 200 yards out into a 10 foot radius around the hole).
That said, I legit can't comprehend what these guys are going through physically. It's beyond my scope.

Longest match of Kokkinakis' career, not even the longest Murray has played in the last few days. :)
