They did somewhat, the reason they didn't do it more was:
1. He was putting up the best rushing QB performance ever
Ever? Jackson in 2019 had more yards and fumbled less, even setting aside the excellent passing numbers. Also, sacked about half as often.

Sacks aren't really relevant to called QB runs, the point was that when they shifted the balance of the offense to more QB runs it was in part because Fields was putting up record place production on the ground (better ypc than Lamar at high volume) and the supporting players were terrible. Fields came up just short because of the Buffalo game. Though if they'd run designed QB runs more early season (really shifter to it starting with the Patriots, he'd have likely obliterated Lamar's record.

The general point is that the Bears didn't throw more because they were terrible at all things pass game (definitely plenty of blame for Fields too) and Fields was such a good runner it significantly improved their offensive threat to design a lot of runs for him

With Fields, the Bears averaged 20.2pts per game last season, which would have ranked 20th in the NFL. Given the talent deficiencies around him and improvement in all the key passing metrics from his rookie season, I can see why the Bears might assess Fields as the better QB compared to this year’s top 4 prospects. the Bears brass might also think that being in year 2 of the same system will help along with the talent upgrade of Moore + $74.8m in cap space. It might not pan out, but it’s a legit strategy.

Look at the time stamp... it was pretty clearly a response to their division rival trading their best CB away for a mid-round pick.

For those of you that understand the NFL cap gymnastics and the various roster deadlines in the coming months - Let's assume there is an agreed upon trade between the Packers and Jets involving Aaron Rodgers. Is there a date when it would be more beneficial for either team to announce the trade (after June 1st)? I assume they would like to get this done before the draft, but if announcing the trade after June 1st (or another date) saves the Packers ten of millions of dollars, I assume that will be when it happens. What else can be done to circumvent penalties and complete the trade prior to this years' draft?

Here
This is wild.

Here’s a look at how Deshaun Watson’s deal will now be structured after the nearly $36 million shift, via Spotrac:

  • 2023: $19.125 million
  • 2024: $63.96M
  • 2025: $63.96M
  • 2026: $63.96M
  • 2027: $8.967M (voidable year)

Stidham must be an all-time dude in the QB room.
Help me understand this. Jarrett Stidham is now 26 years old has been in the NFL for three undistinguished seasons. He okay as a backup for the Raiders last year (89 QBR in three games). He torched the 9ners in Week 17 last year, but the Raiders lost when Stidham threw a backbreaking INT in OT. Isn't he Drew Lock lite? How does Stidham get that kind of dough?

Ah, the Chase Daniel corollary (14 seasons, $41.8m, 2-3 career record as a starter).

Don’t worry, he also had an undistinguished college career, leading him to getting drafted in the first place.

Is it possible that teams are now valuing backup QB’s higher now due to the concussion rules/protocols? Maybe having a higher level backup that can step in and run an offense for 1-2 games and give the team a chance to win has become relatively important.

I’m just making a darksider Jets joke picking all our former QBs for the championship games.

I will save my bad predictions for like 2 weeks before the season starts.

Wonder what the delay is in finalizing the deal.

Rodgers needs to rework his contract to facilitate any trade, so the emergence of a rival suitor seems unlikely, but the Jets are sort of over a barrel here, unless they consider Lamar a viable plan B.

I bet whoever they select is going to step in and start, but we'll see. On that note, who does everyone think they're taking?
I think it has to be CJ Stroud. I like Bryce Young better, but if you buy that the Georgia game is more representative of what Stroud can be when "unleashed", he has an argument to go first overall.

Yeah, could be -- I really have no idea and find it very interesting that there's (at least) three QBs who could go #1 and not be considered a surprise. I started a poll because I'm curious to hear what others think.
