At this point all I want from him is to start in the majors, captain Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup matches and do what he needs for the next few years to get ready to join the Champions tour.
I firmly he can make that tour very relevant and help increase prize pools there.
Look at the hype when Phil played that one event.

Champions Tour? He can barely get through multiple rounds of golf right now. How is he going to be doing it when he's 52? Or 60?

You might get him as a Ryder Captain and stuff like that, but Tiger's days of competitive golf on any tour are over. Maybe he can play the Masters every year, if he spends 6 months preparing. But that's about it.

They're allowed to use a cart on The Champions Tour
Does that matter? Answer, no.

Tiger is 47 and has finished two tournaments in the last two plus years. He's withdrawn from 2, too. He's played in 5. Even the year before his injury, he played in 3 tournaments. Missed cut. T32. T72.

How is a cart going to help him in three years when he can't finish a round right now?

He has had several leg surgeries. The PGA Tour requires him to walk in his rounds. That puts added stress on his legs and has undoubtedly been a factor in his inability to finish rounds. A golf cart reduces the amount of walking. That reduces the stress on his legs and makes him more likely to finish rounds. I’m sure it’s also beneficial on his back issues. No idea how you get to your “yeah, no” conclusion.

I got there using my eyes.

edit - I mean, what are people talking about? Tiger barely played before he had his leg destroyed. Just look at his 2019 and 2020 schedule. It was a handful of tournaments. Since then, he destroyed his leg completely and cannot finish a tournament, despite playing in only 3 or 4 every year. And it's not like he's at the top of the leaderboard before having to withdraw. He's on the cutline. A good golfer, but not a winning golfer.

It won't get better with age. Do catastrophic injuries usually get easier to deal with as you get older? And it's ok, Tiger is the greatest golfer who ever played. But he has hit the cliff. And his cliff was steep. Mariana Trench cliff.

The difference between walking and riding 18 holes is gargantuan in terms of the effort it takes. I don't know if it will be enough, but it will help immensely.

But I agree with you that Tiger's competitive career may be basically over. A few months ago I got into a discussion here with folks who said that Tiger looked like he could actually win on the PGA Tour again and I was like....eh....maybe, but I need to see a LOT more to be able to say that.

I've seen enough now to say that no, he's not winning on the PGA Tour again, barring a miracle.

Absolutely, he isn't winning on the PGA tour. Even with a miracle, it can't happen. He can't walk. And it won't get better.

Also, it's very hard to win if you can't finish a tournament. And he cannot finish a tournament.

Soly from NLU is going to "handle" some of the streaming of the US Open on Peacock. Sounds like some kind of alternate viewing which could be interesting. Soly/NLU have been leading the charge on how awful golf broadcasts are and it has resulted in some significant changes (mainly on CBS). Interesting to see what they do, thought it's a bit murky on exactly what "handle" means.

In related news, Fore Play/Barstool also announced they are broadcasting a KFT tournament coming up in July.

I'm more of an NLU fan than Fore Play but curious how both of these go and what kind of innovations they can cook up to improve the golf broadcast.

Bryson basically sucks at golf now (though in the present he is having a good round). Missed the cut in 5 of his last 7 non-LIV events and is only 28th in their year long standings.

He’s almost universally hated but like 2 years ago the guy was the center of professional golf. Now he’s a nothing burger.

Yeah, I was firmly in his camp until he said he'd be one of the best players in the world if he had Rory's length. Now he can just go away.

Dahmen and caddy Gino were on no laying up this week. Gino holds the Guinness World Record for most golf holes played in a week.

if you know the answer, do not guess.

Information that helps you get a number.

1. He took a cart
2. Same course all week
3. Played solo and was able to play through every group
4. Usga scoring rules so everything needs to go in the hole and it has to be a legit score. No handicapped doubles.
5. He’s a 0.0 handicap.

Take a guess and show you’re work

I've seen the headlines about the podcast and him holding a record but haven't seen the actual number. Here's my math with some broad brush averages:
45 seconds per hole, average score of 75 means ~56minutes per round.
14 hours of playing time available per day means he could get in 15 rounds/day
15*18*7=1,890

That guess has some wild potential variance - how's he shooting, fatigue, what was the record he was trying to break, etc. The 0 handicap has to help a ton from a fatigue standpoint as well being able to drive a relatively straight line down each fairway. I'd be taking 40-50% more swings than him and put on three times the mileage on the cart.

I was also going to guess around 1000 holes. I'm taking around 5-6 full rounds per day, plus the odd day where he got in some extra holes that didn't equate a full round.

Edit: damn nevermind, just watched that clip and he'd get to 100 holes by 10am and averaged 52m per round :D

I saw your post but hadn't listened to it until just now. I love the fact he lapped a guy four times. Zomp's post did include a guessing game though.

My average per round guess wasn't that far off. I figured it had to be some crazy time per round and number of rounds per day for it to be the record. 5-6 rounds doesn't sound nearly insane enough if you're talking about a world record.

The thing I didn't take into account is that he did it in very northern town in the middle of summer with nearly 24 hour daylight.

I still don't know the full number. I'm trying to land on something.

I think the craziest part to me is he finished -20. With fatigue and everything it's incredible he played as many holes as he did and shot under par.

My hands get chopped up when I play like 36 holes in a weekend. He said his thumb was a problem after the first day but I can't comprehend what his hands must've felt like throughout the week. Sounds like the only real medical issue was his knee from the lateral movement out of the cart for which he received a cortisone shot.

Should be a good final round today. Rory in the final pairing tied for the lead. Compact leaderboard, tough golf course.

Edit: Well Morikawa just WD’d with back spasms. He was 2 shots back so that is a bummer.

Yeah this isn’t a place to bomb and gauge. Accuracy is more important than length for the most part. The rough is a hack and hope situation.

Scheffler, clubhouse leader, hanging out with the broadcast for a bit.

Rory is leaking oil. Denny McCarthy currently has a 2-shot lead.

Yeah, Rory was looking good and then dropped 3 bogeys, with a birdie sandwiched in between the 1st bogey and the 2nd.
