Please explain
I watched a handful of Maryland games the past few years and Ryland was consistently the best player on the field for Maryland. Drilled kicks right down the middle, strong leg on kickoffs, everything you'd want in a kicker.

I'm never going to get particularly upset about day 3 picks. If the guy makes the roster it's a good pick. There is no real consistency across the league at this point in the draft and given the number of teams now with front offices that came from NE, I would guess at least some teams have similar boards.

Andrews fits a need, he'll make the team. Ryland.. Folk is 38 and can't kickoff if they can get in a replacement cheaper who can kickoff it would help the team.

After seeing ST last year, I need to know how good of a tackler he is.

Top 5-10 kickers are easily worth a 4th. Top 5 higher. I don’t mind using this pick on him at all, hopefully it works out better than the last one…

Did they really need to move up for Ryland? Wasn't he mocked as a later round guy?
always ignore mocks on specialists. They always get kinda stuck into the 6th and 7th in mocks (and added to the end on the simulators) but go earlier in real life. Top couple guys most years go rounds 4 through 6.

Didn't he play at E. Michigan until last year?

Folk’s inability to kick off arguably cost the Patriots a playoff spot. For a special teams guy like Bill who likes jackknife players, I doubt that sat well. I don’t think he wanted to go into the year without trying to avoid having the punter be the only kickoff guy, and it was important enough to trade up.

Sow is a monster who needs work but he’s like a 9.29 RAS. He’s a great fit. Love it. He could easily be a starter with development.

I’m not a big fan of Andrews. Too many mental lapses. Sow has lapses too but he has much more tantalizing traits and athleticism and raw power.

Please turn into Joe Thun-ey! Wonder if this and the Andrews pick - who can also play guard - means BB plans to address our OT problem by kicking Onwenu outside

One thing I wonder about. Do the Patriots see the remaining tackles as worse short term and long term options than what they have, and feel like getting interior depth with a couple guys (Onwenwu, possibly Sow) who can kick to RT in an emergency as a better option.

Athletic, high RAS, and if either of these guys hits at guard, lets Onwenu kick out to RT. Don’t hate it.

As for the kicker - our special teams were abysmal last year. We can talk positional value all we want, but the late rounds are all about upside guys. Elite kickers (and kickoff guys) win or lose teams games. Would rather go with the guy with the cannon leg vs the safe kicker (vis a vis SF). If it’s a 20 year pick and hits it probably is worth it. I wouldn’t hate a punter in the 6th either… and worst case they bury him on the PS for a year while they refine the skill set.

Wasn't all the smoke was them targeting Forsythe, because of the Klemm connection?
