There’s no way Guillermo is any good at basketball, right?
These celebrity game lineups are weird

In just over 24 hours, Mac McClung is gong to own the basketball world. Don’t miss the dunk contest.

Real poker table convo as Celebrity Game warmups begin.

Seat 8 (to me): You don’t watch the Celebrity game? You like basketball. Why not?

Seat 6 (before I can respond): Hey, Albert Pujols is shooting jumpers!

Me: That’s why.

I'm excited to watch the captains pick teams live right before they play. Should be fun, especially since i won't be there to be picked last.

I've watched some of his highlights as i had no idea who this guy was and i dont know. He doesn't really get up that high.

The Celeb game having Janelle Monae convinced me, every year both teams need to have 1 person who has clearly never played basketball before.

Wait.... the NBA really put literal child rapist Karl Malone on TV? Do they think people don't have Twitter or google?

The last guy wasted so much time standing there posing for the camera on the moneyballs for 2-3 seconds he ran out of time at the end.

Tatum survives the cut. For now. And now he's out.
A respectable showing for him (tied for 4th out of 8), but he screwed himself by shooting his money rack first. I believe everyone else shot that rack 4th or 5th, and Tatum predictably wasn't warmed up yet at the start (just 1/5 balls in the money rack) and then hit all 5 shots in his final rack.

Jayson Tatum said he began with the money ball rack for fear of being tired if he picked it last. But he also acknowledged he tends to warmup with threes as the game progresses. Also didn’t know he was going first until he arrived at arena.

That was such a difficult dunk by Murphy. No props or themes, but holy crap that was beautiful.
Edit: then Sims follows it up with a corny-ass prop dunk and gets a high score.

No clue who any of these guys are (didn't know KJ stood for Kenyon Jr. before today)

Would have preferred to see 70 yo Dr J, 60 yo Nique and 50 yo Miner dunk.

Loaded McClung. Felt gross betting on the dunk contest but glad I did.
Remember this day when you’re at a party and someone says “Vegas knew” or “The oddsmakers knew.” No, they clearly don’t know these markets as it opened late Thurs morning with McClung the longest shot at +400 across the board……10 min later he was the +100 favorite. It’s like that WNBA Total that opened like 50 points higher than it’s closing number a few years ago. Yes, 50…and still was Under the close.

Well, I think thar “Vegas” often represents the combined effort of the books + sharp betting actions which drive the opening lines to their final number. But, yes, people generally give way too much credit to the oddsmakers. They don’t really know and rely on everyone else to fix things (especially for oddball stuff like your examples).

Oh of course, everyone has a model these days on the most widely available sports. When markets like this occur it puts in perspective how the books aren’t the holier than thou entities that the public often views them. The XFL early season Totals last year (or year before I forget) is another example.

He practiced with the team (as light of a practice as one could imagine), said he felt good and would try to play some.
As long as doctors are fine with him playing, it's not a bad environment in which to start acclimating to the mask.

Some players take to the initial tunnel vision effect positively and others negatively. I recall Pritchard hated it but I’ve seen many over the years have huge first time mask games. I guess it’s similar to a throroughbred wearing blinders for the first time.

Glad that there was some logic behind it. He was wrong, but whatever.
Making the two shots that were worth three points, and shooting the money rack at the right time, were the two keys to winning. To me, shooting the money rack second or second to last, from one of the slots, makes the most sense. The corners might be higher percentage, but starting off cold with it, like JT did, or rushing through it last, is bad strategy.

Grant Williams isn’t high profile enough to get an invite, but he would have done well, with his shooting mechanics, and accuracy from the corners and slots, I thought Halliburton’s mechanics would have translated well, but he spit the bit in the final round.

Yep, not sure what the complaints are -- as good as it has been for years. And why is being short being taken as a negative that cheapens it? Of course it's fun to see short guys like Spud get higher than guys a foot taller than they are.

I can't be sure since I didn't hear the phrasing of the question because for some reason the NBA can't get mics for the people asking questions, but in JB's presser he seemed to insinuate that the mask wasn't a sure thing

He's 6'2" with a 47 or 48 inch vertical. He doesn't get up that high but god damn he can get up.
Just seeing the highlights from the dunk contest. McClung's head was just an inch or two below the rim on at least one of those dunks. For a guy just a little above six feet tall, that's a TON of hops. I don't know the difference between high, that high, and that high, but yeah, dude can really, really jump.
