Denver hasn’t been eliminated.
Oh, ok. They need like 15 different things to work out perfectly for them to make the playoffs.

They have been eliminated. The Bears aren't officially eliminated either. And yet, they have no chance to make the playoffs.

Thanks for the glib.

I was jumping off from your post, not rebutting it. I'm adding context to those rumors you're hearing, because it sure seems plausible that they're a leg of the pressure campaign on Wilson. I'll take responsibility for that not being clear enough initially.

If Russ weren't better, they wouldn't have to threaten a benching, they'd just do it because he'd have earned it. He's started all 15 games this season, his last few games' TD/INT ratios have been 2/1, 1/0, 2/0... his TDs, INTs, ANY/A, passer rating, have all been much better than last year and most of them comparable to when he was a pro bowler in 2021 (all while massively dialing down his air yards per attempt, this is not luck / YAC driven). Let's not act like he's Mac Jones out there, in your rush to fire him out of a cannon.
Those rumors have been going on since Seattle and they were also going on last year. I’m not responding to whatever is being said by teammates right now, I’m responding to teammates bitching that Russ didn’t learn Hackett’s playbook and used Seattle language instead, and that he insisted to have his own office at Bronco stadium, and that you have to reach out to his manager and not him directly, even if you’re on his OL. That is not recent PR spin, it’s a pattern of behavior.

And yeah his stats don’t look that bad, but they seem like a lot of empty calories. His only 300 yard game was the Dolphins game. He has a style of play that’s not conducive to playing within an offense - this is another famous gripe from Seattle. He has extreme highs and low lows, but the highs aren’t as consistent as when he was younger. I can see how a narcissistic offensive mind like Payton might want to gravitate toward a backup who will follow the play that’s called instead of sticking with Russ.

Your Mac comp is pretty apt. Mac DIDN’T get benched early despite his play on the field because of the investment the patriots made in him. If it was just about the best chance to win, Zappe would’ve gotten a chance earlier. Russ got a longer leash because of the trade and his contract, but now the incentives have swung the other way. It’s kind of naive to think that contracts and draft status don’t factor in playing time decisions. Of course they do, especially at QB.

It's OK, I'll keep my drivel to myself. Sorry to pollute your thread.
Why are you defending Russell Wilson so vehemently? By all accounts, he's a fake ass poser who is hated by everyone near his orbit.

His former teammates in Seattle despise him. It seems like Denver despises him, too. Meanwhile, I will point out again that Russ is still getting paid a king's ransom for his marginally decent play.

Russ causes conflicting emotions for me as a Seahawks fan. He is the best quarterback in franchise history and helped Seattle be relevant for a long time.

The defensive players definitely hated him, but other than DK I haven't really heard too much about offensive guys hating him.

That said, the Denver ownership made this bed and now they can go fuck themselves in it. Russ was trending downward with Seattle, why would the Broncos trade for him and give him that huge deal anyway?

I don't know. There are no winners here, but I'm definitely team labor especially in a sport like the NFL.

Also, Sean Payton is the one getting a pass here for whatever reason. He's dirty as fuck and by all accounts a gigantic asshole.

You said something factually wrong and were corrected. That isn't being glib. While the absolutism in your posts is tiring, the style in which you address everyone lacks respect and civility.

Cut the shit.

Is this a drive-by referring to something I said earlier? A joke I made about him buying the most expensive house in Colorado history as he was not even bothering to learn the Broncos playbook? What's the point of your sarcasm? What are you trying to say? I can't speak for @ThePrideofShiner but a five minute search shows:
Marshawn Lynch
Fullback Michael Robinson
Wide Receiver Doug Baldwin

All publicly calling out Russell in some way or another. I'm not including the times Richard Sherman, KJ Wright, and other defensive players crapped on him. Is your contention that this is a guy who's respected by other NFL players? I'm not getting that vibe. Honestly, I can't think of a comparable player who makes other players complain about his personality. Play? Yes, definitely, but these guys are saying I don't like you as a human. Would love to hear your evidence otherwise. After all, there should be current Broncos players bemoaning this decision, right? I've searched, can't find a single tweet or interview saying "We want Russ."

Can we just all agree that no one in this situation is likable? Not Sean Payton, not Russ Wilson, and certainly not the fucking Waltons.

I mean, I don't want to ride for Russ here, but the guy got a lot of glory and very little criticism in Seattle. So, no surprise that the defense hated him, especially after so many of them were unceremoniously cut.

Also, none of these guys were shit talking Russ when he took them to back-to-back Superb Owls, but I digress.

Russ is the fakest and most polished athlete since ARod, but that doesn't necessarily mean the Denver locker room is fired up he got benched.

NFL players want to win and Denver has a better chance with Russ under center rather than Stidham.

Not for long. When he gets cut in the offseason, he gets $17 million and that's it. I mean, yes, he's a phony douche, but it says something when Sean Payton is willing to flush the team down the toilet by killing them salary-cap wise to get rid of him a year early. That's just as much on Payton and his ego as it is Russell and his phoniness. It's a shitty situation for both of them. And the rest of the team is going to end up paying the price.

I tend to take “personality” issues with a massive grain of salt. These things matter, of course, but we are privy to only a tiny amount of information and professional football operates in a culture that is pretty alien to most of us.

As for acquiring Wilson, it’s an outside the box consideration that’s at least worth speculating about. I think he’s an average-at-best quarterback at this stage of his career but more than fine for his base salary. It’s the bonuses that make any deal pretty close to impossible.
