Three straight games for Tomljanovic, up 3-1. She has been playing incredible defense and going for shots when they're there.

Even if Serena comes back here (unlikely IMO), this is going to kill her next round, closing in on 3 hours of intense play.

4-1 now, but still just one break. She needs to flip the switch now though, if she still has it in her.

5-1, almost over for Serena.

Tomljanovic hits the baseline so frequently, it's really impressive.

That second set comeback really killed Serena, she needed to finish that set much more quickly after getting up 4-0. That endless 5-2 game probably ended up deciding the match.

Another many deuce game, Serena has fought off four match points but can't win the game.

That was the longest match Serena ever played at the US Open.

It's a lot dusty in here right now. Going this weekend and really was hoping I would be able to see her one last time. I was 17 years old when she won her fist major. Just crazy. End of an amazing era. What a ride it has been.

Good for Tomljanović , she played a hell of a match out there, and this is BIG money for her, . Samsonova is up next, and she is a absolute buzzsaw right now

I guess Serena could decide to do this again, but she is just gonna be older, and the talent behind just gets better

Big congratulations to Tomljanović, who played a hell of a match and was beyond classy post match. I hope she can keep it going.

I don’t want her to stop but realize it’s hard to keep it going, especially if her next goal is another child. But damn…what a competitor!

Credit to Tomljanović…really great play! She earned the win…and was super classy in the post match interview.

But bummed if this is the final match for Serena.

I got to see her play once (and not in any kind of major match). It was July, 2009 - 5 days after she’d beaten Venus for her third Wimbledon win. She came to the Boston area with the Washington Kastles to play the Boston Lobsters (both in the WTT league). Damn was that fun…even in that arena she showed her competitiveness.

Thought I’d share a couple of pics…

Nice pix!

Looks like we’re getting Medvedev/Krygios in the round of 16, that should be a good one.

It’s interesting the matches ESPN chooses to air on cable. People would rather watch Nadal beat an overmatched bum than an actual compelling match like Cilic/Evans or Bencic/Pliskova?

I am behind somewhat but that drop shot at 11-11 in the first set tiebreak by Krygios, holy shit.

The Kyrgios/Tiafoe final next Sunday is going to be awesome.
Oh man! That would be amazing! I told my Aussie friend (huge Kyrgios fan) this afternoon that I had Alcaraz over Kyrgios in the final, but I didn't post it here because I thought it was more wishful thinking (Medvedev seems like a very cool guy but I don't like watching him play and Nadal is 22-0 in Grand Slam matches he has actually played this year) than what would really happen. One big obstacle to that gone! Go Tiafoe!

Kyrgios is into the third round in the doubles again too, but he seems to be in amazing shape.

12 men left, now just two former Slam champions left. One is obviously Nadal and if you can get the other without looking up who is left in the draw, you are a bigger fan than me.

Also John McEnroe said near the start of the match that he thought Kyrgios was a top five alltime server, I did not realize he was that good and then he fully lived up to that tonight, yowza.

That would be Cilic. Great hard court player.
Well done, 2014 US Open winner who didn’t lose a set his final three matches, Berdych, Federer, Nishikori. He owes Kei a big thanks for taking out Djokovic in the other semi but Cilic was on a roll that final week.

Tomljanovic follows up her defeat of Serena with a 7-6, 6-1 win. She looks really good.
Yeah that was pretty shocking. First set was apparently epic, one of the best of the tourney. Samsonova had been absolutely destroying people during the hard court season, having won both Cleveland and Washington easily

Would ne nice to see Tomljanbovic win this,

Swiatek breaks back and on serve in the 2nd.

Tiafoe takes the first set from Nadal 6-4.
Nadal lost the first set in his first two matches here also, now will be the real test for Tiafoe because Nadal kicks it up a gear.

Very sloppy game by Tiafoe to get broken for the second set, one set apiece.

Swiatek was down 6-2 and a break at 2-1 and won 11 of 13 games after that, 6-0 in the 3rd.
