Three months ago, who on the planet would have thought that the Masters field would include Tiger and not Phil, instead of the other way around?

And there's the rub. I was reading an article (yahoo I think?) where he admitted to playing "weekend warrior" golf. His game was holding up fine when his longest walks were from cart to green. How will it be when the legs start to tire a bit?
The other big thing is that it doesn't allow him to practice nearly as much as well. So putting/chipping suffers because he can't put in the work like he used to.

Sucks that ill have to work pretty much all day thu-sat. But I’ll be there as he’s charging up the leaderboard on Sunday. Even if he doesn’t play this is completely remarkable. This time a year ago I thought tiger was going to lose a leg.

Tiger can technically take it up until Thursday if he wanted, but I think he'll publicly announce his decision today or tomorrow. I don't think he'll show up next week without having confirmed one way or the other.

Anyone going to The Open this year? I just grabbed a ticket for Thursday.

I'm likely going to try to attend a day of The Open...in St. Andrews. I assume you're talking about the US Open? ;)

I can't wait for the US Open, btw. The two major championship courses I've played the most are The Country Club (50+ times) and The Old Course (c. 30 times), and I get to enjoy them both of them a month apart from each other this year. Bliss....

I'll be there Thursday. I have "Garden" tickets. Potentially seeing Tiger in person has me beyond excited.
Nice. Maybe we can meet up. I’ll send over a DM when we get closer.

Yes, US. I capitalized The in error. Or did I. :)

Looks like Phil is going to be playing the US Open. He just filed his entry today, as did Tiger. The deadline for filing is tomorrow.

I wouldn't take it as a given either play. They just now have the option to play.

Edit: I do think Phil plays though. I can't imagine his exile continues through defending at Southern Hills next month. I'd be stunned but I guess we'll see.

Hard to believe Phil would pass up a chance at that elusive US Open win. I'm not sure he's going to have a realistic chance to be competitive without some actual tour play before it though.

If you’ve been following the resale market on StubHub, Tiger playing 72 holes had upped ticket prices to the stratosphere ($700-$800 for a single round). They’ve leveled off a bit since then, but are still well above the ~$400 range they were sticking at before Augusta. The “market” is pretty convinced he’ll play for what that’s worth.

This could be the most expensive Christmas gift I’ve even given my father (one garden ticket) in terms of opportunity cost.

I'll miss Poulter, but could care less about Bubba and Westwood... also once again, all of these guys are a decade past being relevant.

Bubba, Poulter, Westwood, Na appear to be headed to teh Saudi's. What a disaster, this thing is going to tank hard.

World Rankings of these guys today:

#30 - Na
#57 - Westwood
#68 - Watson
#71 - Poulter

Na probably had a couple competitive years left. He might make more with this move though. Poulter is 46 and on fumes but seems to claw his way onto a leaderboard every once in a while. Westwood is 48. Will the Senior Tour allow these guys to join?

The PGA Tour runs the Champions Tour so I would doubt it. My guess is they don't care either because the are getting far more in guaranteed money from the Saudi's than they would on the Champions Tour.

I thought the Furyk WITB posted on GolfWRX was interesting and worth a look:

TM driver, Titleist fairways, Callaway hybrids, Callaway irons, Vokey 50 and 56 but then a Cleveland 60 with a ton of offset, and a pair of different putters he's deciding between. Oh, and he has really heavy shafts in his woods but he's playing KBS Tour R in his irons. And a bunch of different grips on clubs.

This is the guy who won a bunch of tournaments with a used Yes! putter he found in a sporting goods shop bargain bin.

Spieth with an awful lie wedged into the lip of a bunker. Slammed it into a hospitality tent and is calling for a rules official. Maybe should have taken an unplayable?

I love that Strakka is rolling an Odyssey Tuttle.

Cantlay's putter hasn't been as sharp today as we've seen it before

Really happy for Spieth to get the win, but I hate, hate, hate what he is doing with his golf swing. He's so talented that he was able to overcome his swing for the most part today - and you could just about say the same for his putting stroke. That was as smoke-and-mirrors of a win as I've seen in a long time.

Cantlay was really unlucky to get that buried lie in the bunker on the playoff hole...but with Spieth in the bunker already, leaving his approach short was absolutely terrible, and frankly, he deserved the bad luck he got in that regard.

Hahahahahha what? He led the entire tournament in strokes gained tee to green this weekend, and approach shots were his strongest area. He hit the absolute shit out of the ball and won with a negative putting performance.

I'm talking about the over-the-top move he practices right before he pulls the trigger on every shot - that is not the look of someone full of confidence. That's the look of Sergio Garcia when he was waggling the club 20 times before pulling the trigger.

(I didn't know about the strokes gained stat - mea culpa on that. But this time last year, I thought Spieth was getting close to his peak when he was winning majors; this week feels much more like a fluke to me.)

He’s been OK but not great. His 4th round at the Houston Open two weeks ago was one of his best ball striking round in his career. I think he has unlocked something there.

Norman apparently has 70 players registered for the first LIV golf event in London in June, including 15 top 100 OWGR players in the world. Today was the deadline for PGA Tour players to ask the Tour for a release to play it. Robert Garrigus (LOL) apparently is the only public name thusfar.

Seems like this will be a go, though information is still mostly rumors and speculation. Nobody public player commitments, no information on television or sponsors. This could all blow up in spectacuilar fashion.

Even if it does get off the ground, I can't see any way they can sustain.

There will be 290,000 fans at the Open Championship in St. Andrews this July, shattering the previous Open record of 239,000 fans - also at St. Andrews, in 2000:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/golf/61227206

I was one of the 239,000 back then...but even if I could get a ticket this year, no way would I be going with that many people in attendance. The Old Course is almost certainly the worst spectator golf course in the world, mainly because you can't get anywhere near most of the action on account of all of the double fairways and double greens; your odds of actually being able to see the cup when the flagstick has been pulled are virtually zero unless you're in a grandstand. I'm sure there will be a great atmosphere and it'll be extremely watchable on TV, but being amongst so many fans in such cramped quarters has no appeal to me.

We're doing the flight tracking thing today. Tiger's PJ flew to Tulsa today, presumably for a practice round at Southern Hills.
