So far we have:

Cole Strange, pick 29 (SMU #53, Jeremiah #74, ESPN #77, Arif consensus #76)

Tyquan Thornton, pick 50 (SMU off board >280, Jeremiah off board >150, ESPN #117, Arif consensus #155)

Marcus Jones, pick 85 (SMU #125, Jeremiah #123, ESPN #91, Arif consensus #93)

Jack Jones, pick 121 (SMU off board >280, Jeremiah off board >150, ESPN #192, Arif consensus #235)

Anyone else feel like they're working off a printout of their draft board and the intern left the first page on the printer?

Other than weight he's physically right in the solid but not spectacular range on everything

Def a change from last year where it was blue blood schools at the top. And last year was their best draft in a while.

Interesting that the Raiders moved ahead of the Pats. Wonder whether Josh is using inside info from his Foxboro days to his advantage.

Eh. Its Day 3. The picks are 2 behind. I won't do it because I will respect the group decision of course.
Yeah, there’s just as many people “spoiling” the picks as there are people whinging about “spoilers“, so not 100% sure it’s a group decision. The draft has become such a bloated, drawn out process that they can’t keep up with the actual selections of guys who will face long odds of making it through their first contract. It’s far more interesting to me to hear the pick here than give ESPN or the NFL Network a second of my viewing time.

Then spoil them just like ifmanis just did. Problem solved.

I'm following the draft through this thread while watching my kids take a skateboarding class - spoiling spoilers seems like a great compromise.

James White replacement!

Pierre Strong, RB, SD State
(SMU #172, Jeremiah #114, ESPN #143, Arif consensus #124)

SMU had him as a 4 out of 5 fit for NE.

I like this pick and had him on my top 20 for NE in about this spot (120s-130s).

Do we think Strong is more of a receiving type back that's hopefully James White's "successor"?

More of a slasher. They'll have to teach him receiving, they did that with Vereen, though.
He was the fastest RB at the combine, so now they have the fastest RB and WR from the combine.

What I've read in my comprehensive 4 minutes of research is that he ought to be a good receiver but has "inconsistent hands", and is willing but needs development in pass-pro. But apparently very talented runner.

Edit: My take looks silly landing right after SMU's more informed take, though at least I didn't mess anything up!

Adding SPEED.

Pro Football Network scouting report

"The South Dakota State star was the fastest RB at the 2022 NFL Combine."

"While he isn’t the biggest back in the class, Strong showcases physicality as a prospect in multiple ways. Firstly, he was used as a lead blocker for South Dakota State on designed quarterback runs. Secondly, he’s showcased the ability to pick up free blitzers regardless of size. Furthermore, as a runner, he’s demonstrated a decent stiff arm to help extend runs. He’s also shown the ability to grind out yardage. This will help elevate his stock as someone who has three-down potential."

"When tasked with being a receiving option out of the backfield, Strong has displayed the ability to pluck the ball out of the air with good technique. The attributes that make him such an effective rusher ensure that he adds after the catch value, too. This was demonstrated at the East-West Shrine Bowl."

Added bonus?

"Although not strictly part of running back evaluation, Strong has another trick up his sleeve. During his time at South Dakota State, he’s been an accomplished passer of the ball. Creative NFL offensive coordinators should look to incorporate Strong into some gadget plays to maximize their offense."

Some questions:

"Although he’s showcased some natural technique as a pass catcher, there are question marks here. South Dakota State didn’t frequently utilize Strong as a pass-catching back. Therefore, he’s a projection rather than a proven commodity in this respect. Indeed, there were some drops in the games watched while compiling this scouting report."

Take the fastest players you can find & see if you can teach them how to play football? YOLO.
