This is my problem with this. You have a guy that is a known figure. Is he getting paid a lot? No, not really (yea I get that he was like 7th for guards or something so he wasn't a net positive in value, but anyway)
Then you trade that guy for a fifth, just to take reach for a guy in the first round at the same position, when the team has various other needs.

This guy better be Logan Mankins from day one or it's worse than all those round 2 DB reaches.
Mason’s play slipped significantly last year.

I don't know what calculus went into trading Mason for nothing and then replacing him with a first round pick.
I’m generally agnostic about draft picks because I know nothing. But this is the kind of stuff that confuses me. I don’t see the logic.

After last year, we thought maybe things had changed. Now we trade down again...AND a reach. For a low value position that's easy-ish to fill in the 4th round.

I mean, we were all excited about N’Keal and that clearly didn’t work out, so I’m going to talk myself into the fact that Strange is probably winning MVP in a couple years based on what we think about him now.

The board is seeing a 70 year old coach act like Logan Roy and a team that without it's best of all time QB was 8-8 one year and non competitive in a playoff loss the next. It's extremely fair to be very concerned with the grocery picker.

They have a terrible defense and no weapons and just took a fucking lineman they could have probably got later (or someone comparable)
Well, it’s like they say, nothing makes your weapons better or keeps your defense off the field like a good guard.

Okay, maybe they don’t say that, but…hey.

I’m sure he will be a fine player but I feel much better about their (and anyone’s, really) ability to hit on OL talent in the middle rounds than with early picks.

If the guy is a stud we’ll be happy, same as we were with Mankins. But of course feels off in the moment when the defense right now is basically Barmore/Judon and pray the QB misses his wide open receivers in the middle of the field.

They have a billion picks over the next two days. Oline, self created problem or not, was a serious need. Gonna save my frustration until at least Saturday night.

When your defense literally cannot stop Buffalo you do not waste a pick on position of need, a need that you created.

This board goes through this ritual almost every year. Just copy and paste.
to be fair, bb’s drafting over the last several years has been pretty shitty overall

he’s old now and no longer has the best player in football on the roster for relatively low money

Strange was a bad pick, revisionist history aside. I would have preferred they trade out altogether
Thats the thing, trade down 15 and you still get this pick. It doesn’t make sense.

It's also a lie. You can take their best drafts in the past decade and this board was immediately excited about them. SoSH loved last year's draft, as well as 2012. It isn't always a shower of negativity.

They haven’t won a Super Bowl in over 3 years
The horror! Listen to yourself -I know we’ve been super spoiled but wining the super bowl is fucking hard and we did it 6 flippin’ times since 2001. We need to get better every year and last year we were better than the year before, that’s good with me. All I want is a chance every year and BB gives that to me, I could not be happier to be a Pats fan.

Logan Mankins was largely thought of as a third round talent when the Pats took him in a similar position in 2005 and he ended up one of the best linemen in Pats history.

I think this will end up being a very good pick.

Who knows if Strange will be a good pick, but I find the idea that we have any idea if he'd have been available later based on public boards laughable.

We heard that there would be 3 QBs in the 1st.... there was 1. Malik Willis was getting suggested top 10.... he fell to the 2nd. Johnson was going to the Jets top 10... they took him in the late 20s, and he may well have fallen out of the 1st if they didn't. Public boards and ratings are guesswork at best.

Edit- Karlaftis was top 10-15 most places... 30th. Dean and Booth.... fell out of the 1st. Jahan Dotson was projected by many in the 40s or 50s... he went 16th. There is no clarity to these things
