Watched this kid play this past season. He is a good kid, hopefully his HS success will translate to the minors.

With Romero (round 1), C.Coffey (2a), Anthony (2b), Hoppe (6), Bolden (7), Brand (8) and I.Coffey (10) signed or agreed for a total of $6.7mm, that leaves approx $1.75mm for Rogers (3), Meidroth (4), Dean (5) and Brannon (9).
Rogers should get $300k-$400k, Meidroth $150k-$250k, Dean $344k (slot) and Brannon should get most of the remaining $750k-$1mm, with an outside chance the team could sign Brannon for the lower part of the range and use the remainder to sign one of the later picks.

It's curious how all this works when Romero is our 10th ranked prospect and Anthony slots at 32 despite getting the bigger bonus. It's close (2.5 to 2.3) but 22 spots? Coffey was ahead of Anthony too at 31.
Also surprised there isn't more news about Bryant Zayas. Weird seeing a top HS (214 on perfect game) recruit being a UDFA signing. I know it was mentioned on page 8.

Not likely. The org has approx. $1.75mm remaining in its pool (including the 5% overage allowance). If everyone signs on the low end of speculated ranges (Rogers $300k, Meidroth $150k, Dean $344k (slot) and Brannon $600k), that leaves $350k to sign players beyond the 10th round. Add in the $125,000 exclusion for post 10th round signings and the Red Sox could offer Kilen approx. $475k. Not a pittance, but it may not be sufficient to sign Kilen. It may be enough to sign one or both of the other HS picks (Sanders, Jones)
Where he's ranked similar to Dean, does he just get more because he has leverage being a HS kid?
Yes. Dean will get slot, more or less, because his rankings are roughly equivalent to where he was picked. Should be an straightforward negotiation. Kilen's reps would likely argue that he should get a 3rd/4th round bonus, given his higher MLB/PG rankings and his leverage to attend college. I would think $500k would do it, but I'm not sure the Red Sox can get there. The Red Sox likely already know Kilen's number and whether there's any chance of getting to it.
Anthony can be a worse deal and still be worth it. And/or the club might just have a differing evaluation of him.

So now that we have some reported signings, plus some time has passed - how do we feel about the draft generally?
Good, bad, indifferent?
Not being as invested in the rankings and whatnot, I tend to think of the minors as holding two types of players. Those that have a chance of being impact players for the club (as opposed to journeymen players like Refsnyder who can be signed for reasonable money), and players that have value to other clubs in trade. Both can overlap.
Do we have any here potentially?

According to Jim Callis of MLB.com, 17th-round draft pick Deundre Jones has signed with @redsox for $125k, so that should have no impact on Boston’s ability to sign Kilen or Sanders.

Stoked about Brooks Brannon! Kid seems like a winner and is super-happy to be with the Sox. Great signing.
This is the guy. Thought he was a backup sign unless a higher pick bailed. Very excited to have him. He can hit.
Most picks in the top 10 rounds are made with confidence that they’ll sign. If not, it’s a loss of pool money.

With all of the reported bonuses, the Red Sox have $299,480 remaining, most of which was likely used to sign U. San Diego SS Chase Meidroth. We'll have to wait and see if they get as close to their number as they did in 2019, when they had just $3,305 left under the cap+5% mark.

I never really noticed the complete dearth of corner OF prospects in the system, mostly because players can be moved to the OF... but wow. Tyler Dearden has a claim if one considers Gilberto a CF.

RF is always tricky because players need arm strength to make the throws, so you do sort of want guys that play that spot. Maybe Boston gets lucky, wins the draft lottery, and ends up with Crews as their RF of the future.
