Some uh...rough quotes from the head coach

View: https://twitter.com/Connor_J_Hughes/status/1595459075390599170

Twitter: "Robert Saleh said there are aspects of Zach Wilson's game that will "continue to deteriorate" if they kept throwing him out there. Right now, the way Wilson is playing, it's not capable of "winning football games." #Jets "

I don't know why they don't just use the "doing whats best for the team" thing that BB loves. Imagine hearing that stuff - he is done with the Jets

Yup. He lost the locker room. Wilson is likely toast in NY.
The locker room was lost and never to return the second Wilson blithely stated he didn't let the defense down and took no accountability whatsoever. That was a jarring comment from an entitled idiot. Note, this is the same guy who said it was boring to throw away balls on dead plays, while throwing INTs on dead plays because it was boring to throw the ball away.

Wilson sucks. Ten cent head and his skills are like 11 cents, too. It's not like he was great in college.

Manziel 2.0.

Can you tell those of us for whom work has blocked twitter what the coach said?
Robert Saleh said there are aspects of Zach Wilson's game that will "continue to deteriorate" if they kept throwing him out there. Right now, the way Wilson is playing, it's not capable of "winning football games." #Jets

Agreed 100%. Wilson is pretty much the antithesis of everything most teams look for in a QB. He might be out of the league in 2 years. It’s spiraling down that quickly. Just an absolute loser.

Picks after Zach Wilson:

Ja’Marr Chase
Jaylen Waddle
Jaycee Horn
Patrick Surtain
Justin Fields
Micah Parsons
Penei Sewell

This is the problem when you don’t have a QB. You often reach and make bad decisions.

He’s overstating how bad Wilson is on the field to avoid talking about the biggest problem, his utter immaturity and lack of leadership.

I would be surprised if we see him in NY next year.

It was a little bit of a story in training camp when Garrett Wilson basically said Zach doesn't throw a catchable ball, while Flacco always did.

The receivers hate him. The defense hates him. The numbers are bad. The locker room was probably a powder keg. Saleh had no choice here.

Agree with everything Saleh said, but think he’s an idiot for saying it publicly. Throwing him under the bus accomplishes nothing. If they’re done with him, wait until the end of the season and try and get some value for him. A generic, BB-esque, “ doing what I think gives us the best chance to win this week” would’ve been the better play.

I am not sure.

He was losing the locker room. The entire team was playing their asses off only to have it blow up because the entitled QB was terrible and also he refused any accountability. Sometimes coaches have to coach. Losing a locker room is worse than anything.

Mike White must be the coolest guy because before he even played last year the Jets players were saying stuff that made me and others on the Reddit page think they were fucking around. As time went by we could see they weren’t. The players love him. He should be able to run the O so we’ll see what happens.

My views on Wilson have been affirmed.

If the "Why me?" is a direct quote, then that's as bas as it gets. Saleh might have been paraphrasing and suggesting Wilson asked why he was being benched and that he wanted to keep playing.

And Flacco has to be the backup to White. After this, you can't risk (this week, at least) having to play Wilson if White were to get hurt

This is just absolutely delicious. I’ve found this year’s Jets team disturbingly likeable to this point, that crashing down in an absolute spectacle is tremendous.

Sorry to our Jets fan friends here, y’all deserve better.

Fair point, but I wonder if the benching itself sends the needed message to the room, without trashing him publicly. Not that I have any interest in Wilson’s feelings. He seems like an entitled, immature jerk.

Except that it's entirely possible that this QB change inspires the team and they go on a roll. The "crashing down" might be limited to one player

"The big thing I want to make sure I address on this one, just want to make sure you guys all listen to this very carefully please. Zach's career here is not over," Saleh said. "I know that's gonna be the narrative, I know that's what everyone wants to shout out and that's not even close to the case. The intent, the full intent, is to make sure Zach gets back onto the football field at some point this year. When that is, I'll make that decision, I'm going to take it day to day. The biggest thing with Zach, it's the same things we've talked about, is the young man needs a reset."

Feels like Saleh thinks a little public shaming might be good for a kid who needs to be knocked down a peg or five.

FWIW, if the Jets were deciding between Lance and Wilson, they were screwed either way based on results to date.

Watching this unfold has been wildly entertaining. Knowing that it was precipitated by NE is the cherry on top.

Well…some have been conspiratorial about this from the jump. Flacco was always easy to bench for the kid because we know what Flacco is and he is old. If MW played well, going to Zach would be controversial. Do I believe this, not really. Do I believe it more than I did yesterday? Yes.

The worry about White playing well and not being able to even go back to Wilson seems like the correct hypothesis in hindsight. White had some turnover issues last year but he still, I would think, give the Jets a better shot than Flacco.

This was indeed announced before I had posted this.

Losing Breece Hall was a crushing blow for their offense, and ultimately is going to play a large contributing role in Wilson’s demise. Wilson deserves what he was getting but with Hall, as crazy as it sounds I really think they would have been a top 6-7 team in the league.

The D is off the charts legit, especially up front and in the back. The offense really only needs to put up about 17 ppg. With Hall back there he was essentially doing that himself and the threat of a run game made it easier for Wilson to make the 2-3 throws per game he needed. That kid Hall was electric in his short window.

If he is healthy next year, and they get an average qb like Jimmy G, I would feel really good about them winning 11 games next. But then again, they are the Jets. That is a very good roster on both sides of the ball. They need a qb, a healthy olineman and a solid tight end and they are set.

If the Jets want to win games, why White over Flacco? Maybe my view on Flacco in this offense is distorted by that Cleveland game but I thought he looked pretty good. Has White done anything remotely impressive?

Flacco can’t move and we are on 3rd or 4th stringers at RG and RT. White plays faster. Is a worse athlete than Zach and has a worse arm but he makes decisions quick. He looked good against Cincy and his drive against the Colts before he got hurt. He looked dreadful against the Bills.

Yeah, this is kind of what I was getting at when I wrote the below on the other thread. Giving up on him less than two seasons in seems like it would be malpractice, tho that may well be what they’re doing if they think he’s an immature, low character guy.
If it were my team’s QB, I would hope that they actually do go back to him and use this benching to send a message about his attitude and work ethic. Mike White got outplayed in preseason by Flacco and #2 overall picks don’t grow on trees. Plus, Wilson didn’t have a red shirt year. Maybe they do end up moving him in the offseason (I’m told the Panthers could be in the market!) but short of White/Flacco going on some big run, I wouldn’t give up on Wilson entirely just yet.

Not to be crass, but can you elaborate? I hadn't heard anything about this.

edit: I guess there's no need. You pretty much laid it out.
