I didn't exercise my wit yet to come up with a suitable pun; have at it. Just wanted to start the thread.

Caught some of League Two Swindon Town 1-4 Man City this afternoon. Classic FA Cup stuff. Swindon hung in there and played football, but the City quality was just too much. Swindon did make it interesting with a nice goal in the second half. I just love watching the crowds in these smaller stadiums go batshit when their teams do something against a big side. Cole Palmer, who looks like a ninth grader, was all over the place for City and had a golazo late. Swindon keeper with some quality stops.

Nothing jumps out at me as out of the ordinary.

astride the divide
Brighton may join them, down 1-0 at West Bromwich with 20 minutes to play. Brighton just brought on Cucurella and Trossard to try to salvage something. And West Brom just went down a man, Kipre with two yellows in short order.

Match of the round so far is championship Barnsley vs non-league Barrow. It’s currently 4-4 starting extra time despite Barnsley being 2-0 up and a man up at half time. There were 5 goals in the last 12 minutes. Also, at least 3 of the 8 goals were worldies.

Not a good start for Everton. Down a goal in under a minute.
… off a free kick, with a lineup of five defenders, against a Championship side.

Defending has been brutal. Three dangerous balls in the box already at 6’ and Everton barely out of their own end.

Rafa is supposed to be boring snd defensively solid at least. We’ve been shockingly bad.

This is terrible. Everton have gone all-in on Rafa and they don’t want to climb down off they but this is as bad as I’ve seen any PL side play.

Hull are 19th in the championship. I've watched a few Everton games of late. I can't figure them out.

Good grief that could have been 2-0. Good save by the Everton keeper.

Hull have been really industrious this half and maybe should have got another goal, but in the periods of the game where Everton found their rhythm they went through Hull like a knife through butter.

Tuchel not messing around, starting a lot of his regulars (including Lukaku, Pulisic, Werner, CHO, Ziyech) against Chesterfield, who play in tier 5 of the pyramid. 4-0 at halftime, unsurprisingly.

Hull are 19th in the Championship. Everton are making them look better than they actually are. But their lack of quality shows in and around the box when they need a quality final ball. But they've given it everything. I reckon any team above 15th in the Championship would have gubbed Everton in 90 minutes.

Extra time favours Everton, who let's face it, are no Newcastle.

A blessing for Burnley, who have 4 games in hand due to COVID cancellations. It’s going to be a hectic spring already.

Today's results.

That Barnsley-Barrow match must have been fun.

If you'd played "real side or made-up name?" with me I would have got Kidderminster Harriers wrong. They are from National League North, the sixth tier. Plymouth Argyle and Boreham Wood, of the fifth tier National League, also won today. Chesterfield and Yeovil Town of the fifth tier were the other non-league sides to make it this far, but couldn't get through today.

Mansfield 2-3 Middlesbrough
Bristol City 0-1 Fulham AET
Burnley 1-2 Huddersfield
Coventry 1-0 Derby
Hartlepool 2-1 Blackpool
Millwall 1-2 Crystal Palace
Barnsley 5-4 Barrow AET
Boreham Wood 2-0 AFC Wimbledon
Kidderminster Harriers 2-1 Reading
Leicester City 4-1 Watford
Newcastle United 0-1 Cambridge United
Peterborough United 2-1 Bristol Rovers
Port Vale 1-4 Brentford
Queens Park Rangers 1-1 Rotherham United AET (QPR win 8-7 on penalties)
West Bromwich Albion 1-2 Brighton & Hove Albion AET
Wigan Athletic 3-2 Blackburn Rovers
Birmingham City 0-1 Plymouth Argyle AET
Chelsea 5-1 Chesterfield
Hull City 2-3 Everton AET
Swansea City 2-3 Southampton AET
Yeovil Town 1-3 AFC Bournemouth

The only fun thing about playing in League One is seeing some of the grounds.

Cambridge is a very mediocre League One side. Joe Ironside is the truth, but the rest of that squad is rugged.
Wes Houlihan (at 38) pulled the strings as a playmaking midfielder in a rampant 433 last season in League Two, but has slowed way down this year. They’ve (wisely) played more reservedly this season (wings as wingbacks so now a more defensive 451). Ugly loss for Newcastle.

Kelleher’s first name looks like something my 16 month old daughter would put on the fridge with her magnetic letters (Caoimhin).

Speaking of the Liverpool keeper .. Kelleher’s punches seem to be the only weakness I’ve seen so far in his game. A relatively feeble punch led to a good chance at the end of the half .. and a goal in the Chelsea game.
I'd credit Kovacic on that more than a weak punch bye Keelher...he hit that on the volley from just outside the 18 on a line. He may need some stronger technique on the punches, but that particular goal was a worldie.

These Liverpool announcers are terrible. They were complaining that LFC seemed content with a 1 goal lead and just kicking it around for a while. Then they get another and they’re complaining that Robertson is still in because he might get hurt?

Also all the complaining about Liverpool‘s FA Cup failures in the Klopp era. Perhaps they’d prefer Arsenal’s approach?
The FA Cup is, at best #3 on the priority list if not #4. And , in the year they were in the World Club final, a #5.

Spurs struggle, cuz they're the Spurs, but pot 3 late goals to beat Morecambe 3-1.

Ndombele and Dele booed off pitch. Spurs were down 1-0 when they subbed out.

The FA Cup always presents issues for the top level clubs. For most (Arsenal excepted) they don’t care about winning the competition. But, they DO care about giving game time to the kids and the first team fringe players. Losing early takes away those opportunities.

That VAR decision in the United-Villa match was comical.

First they check to see whether Ings was offside...no dice.

But maybe Watkins touched it beforehand, therefore making it offside? Again, no dice.

Ahhh, Cavani ran straight into a stationary Villa player when the cross was initially played, nowhere near the ball, and does a fish flop. Chalk it off.

You can see it right at the beginning or right at the end.

Didn't see it live due to meetings, but that is lunacy. The freeze frame of the header across the 6 yard box shows every Villa player behind the ball - but also captures the peak of Cavani's simulation.

Just a nightmare scenario for United. Ronaldo misses a PK in the first half and Middlesborough score a goal that inexplicably isn't called back for a hand ball. Now Sancho after looking the brightest he has since the beginning of the season has pulled a hamstring and we're going to extra time.

To be clear United are actually playing well. They should have scored 4, maybe 5 goals.

Kidderminster Harriers of the National League (had to look that up) up 1-0 against West Ham 22 minutes in. And Plymouth Argyle with the same lead at Chelsea.

I got myself pretty invested in this game over the course of the morning and wow what a devastating shift in extra time. Can't imagine how the team and fans feel being that close.

I’d never heard of this team and I feel like I was just kicked in the balls.

They were all off, too.
