Nuggets lose again (@ the Knicks). This was their 5th loss in 6 games, but they remain comfortably ahead of the Kings/Grizzlies, who are tied 4 games back.

Embiid is now a slight favorite to win the MVP over Jokic, but if the Nuggets and Sixers switched conferences, Embiid would be the runaway favorite right now. The red hot Sixers would be 1st in the west with an almost insurmountable 5 game lead, while the Nuggets would've tumbled all the way back to 4th place in the East.

Nice win for the Knicks, good energy both ways for a 1 PM start. NY got up 13 early, gave it all up and were down 13 in the 3rd, and then fought back behind a nicely balanced effort. NY is now 12-3 since adding Josh Hart.

Meh, they play a B2B tomorrow so he was always going to sit one of the games. Now if he sits tomorrow then there is clearly a physical problem but sitting out one of these two this weekend was always going to occur.

I hate it to my core. Giannis played back to backs on the road vs actual playoff teams to boot not bottom dwellers (magic, blazers). This league is wild, no more dogs left.

I completely get why you and fans hate it. My guess is that they have plenty of evidence that playing in B2Bs tends to weigh on efficiency as well as recovery. The data also probably shows that B2Bs lead to higher injury risk but that's just my guess.

Dogs are great and Giannis clearly deserves the moniker. However, its just not how the game is played on the regular anymore.

The Hawks scored 83 in the first half (83-61) and still lost to the Spurs (second half was 65-35 SA), yikes.

Big win for the Thunder today, 124-120 against the Suns. But, two games against the Clippers this week. Still on the fence as to whether I want them to go to the playoffs....

Dallas loses again. 7-10 since adding Kyrie, who I remind you, is not a winning player.

Kris Dunn is flat out ballin in Utah this month. His worst game of the year was against the Celtics. Kid still hasn’t figured out how to defend without fouling but he’s like a glove on that end.

Looks like Danny hit on Agbaji, too
Great game. Kings were missing Red Velvet but Utah looks kind of feisty right now. Even shorthanded the Kings are tough (I believe you have enjoyed a few beams) so Utah beating them is impressive and maybe makes me feel a touch better about the other night. But yeah Agbaji looks good and not just as a scorer.

Now that I’ve watched him closely a couple of night in a row - oh my god, if I were a Minnesota fan I would be absolutely sick over Walker Kessler for Gobert even before you start considering the draft and salary considerations.

DAR may have topped the Nets/KG/PP trade. What a heist and then turn around and land an All-Star in Markkanen.

The race between Utah & the Lakers for the last play-in spot is on.

A round of applause for Danny

Is there anyone who has done more to “Wow!” a team back to contention since Auerbach? To think that is all began with him watching video with a sleeping Gerald Green.

After the Top-5 in the WC there are SEVEN teams with either 36 or 37 losses! This is pretty nutz!

You could hear it in the crowd last night. A lot of optimism there.

Gobert/Bog/Ingles/Conley crew were edging past its prime. Danny knew it and acted. That could have been a fading franchise for numerous years and bottomed out like we're seeing in PDX. Ainge wasn't having it.

Kessler alone will probably play Gobert to a draw over the next 4 years for 1/20th of the cost.

Whatever people thought of the "process' rebuild Trader Danny just rinsed that, complete slam dunk. Very Auerbachian

The Cellar gets 5 stars for absolutely panning Minnesota after it was announced.

Yeah I’ve heard people refer to them as “the tanking Jazz” which I LOL’d at as they have consistently competed all season long. I don’t mean to discredit Ainge in any way but this was all Ryan Smith’s doing in recognizing that the team needed to be broken up prior to bringing on Ainge to do the job. This was why he was hired……errrrrr, “asked to UNretire.” I still find that “retirement” PR thing funny. So yes, Ainge did Red’s work but Smith deserves a ton of the credit for setting the stage for him to dismantle the team. For an owner, that is a shit ton of risk in breaking up a perennial playoff team even though many of us knew that their time had come.

Also credit to Silver for introducing the PLAY-IN format, which has created so many permutations and anti-tanking

Fair point, you really need ownership to buy in. Probably the best hire since Marcellus brought in the Wolf

How long ago did the Jazz go over their preseason projected WIN total? Hopefully, you collected a few shekels on the back of it.

Ugh just saw that. Who the hell is his agent, his Dad? That’s awful!! 2/$3.3m!
Considering he hasn't gotten a full year in the NBA since 2020 and at 29 his next stop was likely either Turkey or coaching high school.... turning an 11 game hot streak into a 2 year deal for 10 times what he earned last year is a pretty good deal.

And considering it's more than the lifetime earnings of most Americans, I'm not going to feel too bad for him.

Fact. Dunn wanted to continue to fly charter and collect $3MM more while not having to audition in the G-League all next season

High-level GMing, similar to what Brad did with Kornet & Hauser in the summer. Moves like these are a great way to fill out a roster while saving salary cap bullets for superstars.

Win-win for both parties

Definitely a lose for Dunn here. He’s finally healthy and would be in line for a nice paycheck this summer but will essentially be a rotation player next year on slightly more than the vet min. The market for this type player is much much higher in FA. Terrible negotiations by whoever handled them imo.

Dunn & his agent probably looked at it this way
1. got slightly more than a vet minimum for next season + a bunch of 10-day contracts this season
2. ensures an NBA spot this season & next season on a potential playoff team
3. getting NBA minutes now
4. Coach Hardy is playing him in high-leverage spots
5. hedges out injury risk between now and this summer

NBA roster spots in the summer is a game of musical chairs for 29yr olds that have been G-League fodder for multiple years.
Dunn's agent feathered him a comfy seat before the music stopped.

Seriously. There was like a 75% + chance that Dunn again played less than a dozen games and he would be looking at playing overseas next year
Lol. He had already played 9 games when he signed the deal and established himself as one of their best guards now closing out games for a team in the playoff mix. Utah writers were wanting more of him like Boston fans want more of White.

You may have a point HRB, next year isn't guaranteed (I thought it was). Dunn received an extra $300K over the vet minimum for the rest of the season.

deal also includes a minimum salary ($2,586,665) for 2023/24, but that figure is entirely non-guaranteed. The veteran Jazz guard would get his full guarantee if he isn’t waived on or before October 23.

According to this - https://www.hoopsrumors.com/kris-dunn (scroll down) - his new agent is Thread Sports Management (Bernie Lee).

One article also mentions that his new contract allowed Dunn to get $350K more this year than if he had played on a vet minimum so he gets some short-term gain. In addition, I would guess that Dunn's reasoning is essentially that now he has found a place he can thrive, he might as well play next year in UT (even if contract is non-guaranteed) to rebuild his value as he's young enough to get a good offer if he can put some stats together next year.

Hope it works out for him.

When does Luka ask out? As soon as this summer? I could see the Nets turning around the haul they collected this year for him to see what a team of high-quality wings and an elite defensive center can do around Doncic.

Not sure about Luka but it's kind of funny that by trading their offensive stars, the Nets now have a roster that would be a perfect landing spot for a star player. They just have a bunch of big, good defending wings, a very good defensive center, and shooters off the bench.

And a ton of draft picks now! I could see them making big waves this summer.

I think Luka has to be looking at the situation in Dallas and seeing that it's the worst in the league. They have nothing outside of him and Kyrie, and Kyrie's either leaving or getting overpaid
