That’s the most any team has scored in a quarter this season, no surprise.

Boston, MA
The history of the Lakers has been superstars going there (Kareem, Shaq) and getting insanely lucky with coin flips and the draft (Magic, Kobe). The Buss family has no idea how to team build and fix this.

Jordan Poole just got himself ejected on Christmas. Dude's leading the Warriors in scoring tonight en route to what looks to be an easy fourth and now the Grizzlies have life. He's a kid but his rep will be hard to shed.

Devin Booker leaves hurt four minutes in, quite a dud-filled day for the NBA.

It was DEN 23-9 when I posted that, looks like we may have a competitive game after all.
Really thought I would be a Luka guy, but surprised myself by finding out I’m a Jokic bro. Cannot get enough of watching this guy hoop. What he was doing to Memphis had me cracking up the other night.

Moved his body while Gordon was in the air, absolutely should be a block. This version of Gordon absolutely makes the Nuggets (a team with just the one all-star) an absolute title contender.
Jokic feeding Gordon makes a fun duo

“It was the fourth 40-point, 15-rebound, 15-assist game in NBA history, according to ESPN Stats & Info. He joined Oscar Robertson (1961, 1962) and James Harden (2016).”

Xmas day was fun. Great showcase for the league even with some of the midday blowouts. And we all need a Dubs/Grizz playoffs rematch for the betterment of nba civilization.

Will the idiot voters move on from the "can't give the same guy mvp 3 times in a row" thing? Joker has been incredible all flipping season. Better than last year i think.

Grant has been told to clear out his desk, with Watanabe moving into the Corner Office at 70%!

TJ Warren is back to being a bucket. The Nets look beastly on offense

I'm hacking Claxton/Simmons whenever they hit the floor. They've only taken 2 FTs tonight, come on JB.

I will never stop finding it funny: how much of an NBA boomer LeBron is.

At a time when stars care less and less about "marquee" teams/cities, he sold out the back end of his prime to play huge minutes on crap teams, all for the sake of purple and gold.

(Yes, he won a title, but he had any number of paths available to win a title while having a more rewarding back 9.)

I'm bearish on the Lakers' prospects going forward, as the last generation ages out, and a generation that sees personal brand as an internet-based, not city-based, phenomenon ages in.

Bron (and Klutch) were also excited about their "business empire" and the idea of producing TV/Movies from Los Angeles. BUT he probably could have done that from anywhere in the country (& sent his entourage to LA)

Watching the Lakers fade into oblivion is rather enjoyable. In an alternate Universe, during the Summer of 2021, they keep KCP and Kuzma. Re-sign Caruso. Bring home DeMar DeRozan on a discounted deal. Then draft a defense first rookie in Herb Jones with the 22nd pick. Instead, they extended THT and traded for Russ. As they say, the rest is history.

I mean there were folks in the media that were still touting them a month ago when "AD was playing at an MVP level". Laker Delusion is unmatched.

As an aside I'm still trying to figure out which was worse, the Laker's Summer of '21 or the Wolves' Summer of '22?
Watching Miami's G-League Center, Orlando Robinson, outplay Rudy Gobert last night is just appalling.

Yes, exactly. The idea of needing to physically locate himself in LA to create said business empire is hilariously outdated. The younger guys in the league get this. LA is a commodity for them: they can hang out there for summers as much as they want, and any deals they want get done virtually.

The Wolves situation is worse imo. They didn't get a top-5 (at the time) player in their future-mortgaging trade, while giving up similar amounts of talent/draft equity. If it blows up for them this year, which seems quite possible, they're very screwed. Ant is good enough that maybe they can find a way out, but KAT and Gobert are seeing their trade value plummet. If I were their front office, I'd try to trade KAT for a haul, but that ship may have sailed given how soft he is.

Bill Simmons and Joe House were talking about whether the 'Wolves will need to trade KAT to right the franchise, in their trade value podcast. They mentioned he has a player option in 27-28 for $60 million! I looked it up and it's true. He makes over $50 million in each of the two years prior to 27-28.

That could be an untradeable contract for anything of real value.

does the new take-foul rule slow the Hack a Clax/Ben down?

Getting them off the floor would hinder their defense
Na, it is still fine to foul guys off-ball prior to late game. Hack-a should very much be in play, against Simmons in particular.

I remember reading that his wife wanted to live in Brentwood full time and that was a big factor.

is Danny Ainge the most hated man in Minneapolis?

He's single-handedly drop-kicked two generations of Wolves fans

Hard to believe a team with Alex Rodriguez in an executive role would make a bad decision, isn't it?

The one thing I would say not so much in TWolves defense as part of their thinking is that as a cold-weather, small-market team with no history (e.g. about the worst combo in the league) they need to take shots when they can. So, while they took the WRONG shot in a likely-ruinous way I do think trying to take advantage of a KAT/Edwards starting core while they could is defenseableconceptually. How they did it...total mess. As Zach Lowe has noted, they'd hvae been much better off trading a smaller package for Dejounte Murray. If they did that, perhaps they look for a defensive-oriented 4 (or just play the one they traded to get Gobert) and have a far more sensible rotation.

I don't know what path they have at this point---KAT for Trae Young has been rumored, and I doubt Hawks do it. Even so, does that even work, really? It's a better fit than KAT-Gobert but there's little evidence Trae is going to be part of a real winning team, and you worry about him getting along wtih Gobert (and how ANT will feel about never getting the ball). You can't really get better trading ANT. And you can't get enough for Gobert to justify it, I don't think. I guess you just play it out at least this year and hope?
