I think Hall's injury came in the 2nd period against Vancouver. It was a check in a corner, he left for the rest of the period but came back to play the 3rd. Then they sent him home and Monty said it was precautionary. This kind of happened in the pre-season where he got hurt in a game, Monty said it was no-biggie, then all of a sudden it was week-to-week, then next thing you knew he was back on the ice well ahead of schedule.

I'm guessing they'll hold off on surgery unless it's absolutely necessary. Both will try to play through it and will be on the ice in a month or so to ramp up.

As long as he's back on the ice in late April or May it's all good. Use his LTIR space as much as you can.

Can we assume Hall is out for the rest of the regular season absent another cap move by the Bruins prior to the deadline? Is there any realistic machination which would allow the Bruins to take him off LTIR with their current roster (waiving Zboril/Greer, for example)?

They could move Foligno to LTIR to activate Hall. I just don’t see any way to activate both before the end of the season.

Definitely rooting for fully healthy Hall and Foligno to be the heroes in a 5 game decimation of Tampa while the crowd chants something like "play by the rules"

Of course, I don’t think they’ll play until the playoffs. They aren't going to come out and say "yeah, they'll be back for the playoffs, we're just screwing around with the cap" because the league is apparently on the lookout for this stuff now. Unless they go under the knife, i would be surprised if they aren't back on the ice and practicing around the beginning of April.

May miss ~4 weeks and may miss the rest of the regular season are essentially synonymous. The regular season ends on April 13th, about 5.5 weeks from now.

I don't think the league would look at this as cap shenanigans though. Two legit injuries to two core players who have been a very large part of team success this season.

It also could be the team didn't have a full medical report on Fliggy before they put him on IR instead of LTIR.

Sure, but better to not give them any reason whatsoever to go for it. This way the Bruins get to say they waited on time and medicals before being forced to put them both on LTIR.

yea I guess that was my question, why not LTIR Foligno too for the extra cap room?
No need to at this point. If they squeeze in another trade they still can, right?

Feeling pretty confident in some cap shenanigans here, and I love it like SNL’s Angry Boss loved seeing Scott Jergensen.

Yeah, that is very fair.

Give no reason for penalties from the league.

Let's be honest, this league is all bark and no bite. This isn't the NFL. No penalties were ever coming.
That's how it was with the NFL and MLB, too. Then Deflategate and Sign Stealing (both of which were regularly practiced by teams for a long, long time before being cast as the greatest cheating sins of all). Of course, both of those were preceded by regime changes, and I do think Bettman is not one to go this route.

Didn't the NHL go hard after NJ for someone a few years ago, after they signed someone to like a 2334243 year contract?

I'm glad the Bruins are being a bit "by the book" here, considering the NHL literally just sent out a memo on this. Whether Hall and/or Foligno are being held out for cap shenanigan reasons or legit reasons I don't honestly care. But I'm glad they're giving every single possible appearance that they're legit.

I won't hold my breath on this, but this last few weeks has to end the "Jacobs is cheap" talk forever. The extra salaries they are taking on for the Cup drive and front-loading Pasta's contract are definitely not what someone more focused on spending than Championships would do.

And a trade involving Vegas got disallowed last season. But it does appear the injuries in this case are real and it would not surprise me if Foligno gets moved to LTIR sometime next week when the medicals are perhaps more clear.

They’ve also given up 84 more goals than the Bruins. Yikes.
Watching McDavid play defense was really a case study in "speed can't make up for IQ defensively"; one of the goals, McDavid breaks off the eventual goal scorer for an entirely futile pivot towards another Bruin, a move you'd hope the Oilers would isolate in video and compare to Bergeron and go "see how he anticipates, never chases".

Meh, scoring 2 pts/game makes up for a lot of defensive deficiencies. Being slightly below average defensively still probably makes him the best center in the game.

With the product that they’re putting out there this year, they could justify raising the prices more than they did! When have we ever been able to say that in Bruins history?

I can’t believe I’m now old enough to remember going to Thursday games with a student ID and getting a balcony seats in the middle 5 rows between the blue lines for ~$25. I mean, it was that or a crappy party at the Bates complex.
