I think Hall's injury came in the 2nd period against Vancouver. It was a check in a corner, he left for the rest of the period but came back to play the 3rd. Then they sent him home and Monty said it was precautionary. This kind of happened in the pre-season where he got hurt in a game, Monty said it was no-biggie, then all of a sudden it was week-to-week, then next thing you knew he was back on the ice well ahead of schedule.

I'm guessing they'll hold off on surgery unless it's absolutely necessary. Both will try to play through it and will be on the ice in a month or so to ramp up.

As long as he's back on the ice in late April or May it's all good. Use his LTIR space as much as you can.

Can we assume Hall is out for the rest of the regular season absent another cap move by the Bruins prior to the deadline? Is there any realistic machination which would allow the Bruins to take him off LTIR with their current roster (waiving Zboril/Greer, for example)?

Of course, I don’t think they’ll play until the playoffs. They aren't going to come out and say "yeah, they'll be back for the playoffs, we're just screwing around with the cap" because the league is apparently on the lookout for this stuff now. Unless they go under the knife, i would be surprised if they aren't back on the ice and practicing around the beginning of April.

A tweet saying don’t read into Lauko going back to Providence today as per AHL rules he has to be on the AHL roster today at 3 PM to be eligible to be sent down for the rest of the NHL season.

I'd just assume sit Marchand for tomorrow and get him an extended break to the next game which I think is March 9th.

I don't think the league would look at this as cap shenanigans though. Two legit injuries to two core players who have been a very large part of team success this season.

It also could be the team didn't have a full medical report on Fliggy before they put him on IR instead of LTIR.

That's how it was with the NFL and MLB, too. Then Deflategate and Sign Stealing (both of which were regularly practiced by teams for a long, long time before being cast as the greatest cheating sins of all). Of course, both of those were preceded by regime changes, and I do think Bettman is not one to go this route.

I'm glad the Bruins are being a bit "by the book" here, considering the NHL literally just sent out a memo on this. I won't hold my breath on this, but this last few weeks has to end the "Jacobs is cheap" talk forever. The extra salaries they are taking on for the Cup drive and front-loading Pasta's contract are definitely not what someone more focused on spending than Championships would do.

Watching McDavid play defense was really a case study in "speed can't make up for IQ defensively"; one of the goals, McDavid breaks off the eventual goal scorer for an entirely futile pivot towards another Bruin, a move you'd hope the Oilers would isolate in video and compare to Bergeron and go "see how he anticipates, never chases".
