2021 PGA Tour

Last night's No Laying Up podcast was predictably glorious, with Soly demanding apologies from the other guys about Finau that weren't really forthcoming. Two thumbs up from me.

By the way, I can only agree with the NLU guy (I think it was TC) who about Liberty National said words to the effect of, "They had a virtually unlimited budget to move earth around, and *that* is the course they came up with?" I mean, it's fine, but I refuse to believe that's even close to the best course they could have made there.

Don’t be coy. What’s your issue with the course?

Like I said, it seemed fine, but the design itself is hardly memorable (skyline views notwithstanding), and given the budget they apparently had to move earth around, I'd expect something more like Shadow Creek East. And I'm not even the biggest Tom Fazio fan in the world - quite the opposite - but I've tended to be even less impressed by Bob Cupp's work, Liberty National being a Cupp collaboration with Tom Kite. I just don't think he has the flair and creativity of Fazio, let alone Tom Doak or Coore/Crenshaw, etc.

This is the last week for qualifying for the US. Only 6 auto qualifiers this time around due to Covid.

1. Collin Morikawa
2. Dustin Johnson
3. Bryson DeChambeau
4. Brooks Koepka
5. Justin Thomas
6. Tony Finau
7. Xander Schauffele
8. Jordan Spieth
9. Harris English
10. Patrick Reed
11. Patrick Cantlay
12. Daniel Berger

13. Webb Simpson
14. Scottie Scheffler
15. Billy Horschel

The top 5 guys are already in. Finau's win last week vaulted him to 6th and likely locked his spot up regardless of what happens this week.

Reed' is probably the most likely player to get passed over. He spent last week in the hospital with pneumonia. At 26th in the FedEx cup this week and not playing he's likely to not have an opportunity to play next week even if he's healthy enough to play. Still have a month before the Ryder Cup to get up to speed but who knows. If they dump him, I'd add Scheffler in his place.

Birdie putt for DeChambeau to get to -12 on the round. Edit: Eagle, not birdie. And he made it.

Crazy to shoot what is almost a disappointing 60 by missing a couple makable birdie putts on 17 and 18. And he's only going into the weekend 1 up.

Sergio is having an interesting day. Started out birdie, eagle, par, birdie. Then on the drivable #5, he drove it into the greenside bunker, left two in the bunker, and ended up with a double. And now on 10, he just straight shanked one. Looks like he'll save a bogey. He's right on the bubble for next week.
And he's back!
