Andy Brickley's potty mouth
Why, if you don’t mind me asking.
It's not rational. I just can't stand his whining and he's always complaining to his caddie. He's always come across as overly manufactured with his 'team' talk in an individual sport.

I can count on one hand the number of golfers I have actively rooted against*, it's not many, but Spieth definitely falls into that category. I can't stand watching him win. Most guys I'm ambivalent to and appreciate their talent.

*This is my list:
  • Nicklaus (was always an Arnie fan)
  • Faldo (was a huge Norman fan, this has since flip-flopped post career)
  • Mickelson (you couldn't be a Phil fan in Tiger's prime and I've watched Tiger since his Stanford days, big Phil fan now)
  • Vijay (although always appreciated his swing and work ethic, I think he's misunderstood)
  • Woody Austin (hated him for some reason)
  • Rory Sabbatini
  • Fuzzy Zoeller (he's just a racist asshole)
  • Jordan Speith

I watched the Women's Amateur at Augusta over the weekend. It was a joy to see. Lots of beautiful golf, a tightly packed field at the end, and a 17 year-old Tsubasa Kajitani of Japan winning in the playoff despite a double bogey earlier on 17. The only disappointment was that on the playoff hole, Emilia Migliaccio really botched her second shot putting her in a difficult position from which she could not recover. Sadly for golf fans, Emilia has decided not to pursue a career in professional golf even though she clearly could make a living at it. I could see attending that event in the future as a way of at least getting a good look at Augusta.

Stewart Cink has won multiple tournaments this season.
Joining a rather odd collection of those who have done so at age 47 or older ... Cink, Sam Snead, Julius Boros, Kenny Perry

They should have named it the "please don't go to the PGL" pool.

I think the rule against anchoring is moronic. I don't give a shit what the "founding forefathers of this game" thought about anything. Fuck them. Fuck Faxon. Fuck the USGA.

Anyway, what do you think?

I didn’t know this was a thing until I read the article. I think about a million of golf’s rules are stupid.

Yeah, I don't agree with the Fowler invite.

- Based on performances? He has not finished in the top 10 for any tournament since the 2020 American Express. That was 27 starts ago.
- Playing records? I guess this means record at the PGA Championship, which for Fowler is 2 top 10's in 11 starts. Career wise, 5 PGA tour wins with 2 more global W's. Not bad, but not worthy of special treatment, IMO.
- OWGR standing- Fowler is 111th. The cutoff to earn an invite based off OWGR is 50th. He's not really on the bubble.

From what I can tell, the closest qualification criteria for Fowler is being a member of the 2018 Ryder Cup team. He was a member but there is stipulation that you have to be in the top 100 in the OWGR as of 5/9/21 to receive the invite. He is not in the field at the Valspar this week so he will not move into the top 100 by 5/9. If they wanted to give him a "close enough" on this criteria point, they should also include Alex Noren who was a 2018 Ryder Cup player currently ranked 107th (an NLU OWGR manipulator!). As far as I can tell, Noren is not invited to the PGA.

His resume doesn't really scream special invite to me, but it's their tournament and they can do whatever they want. They should've just said "we like him and he's popular" instead of the BS about performance.

Yea I don't really see a problem with inviting guys who are good for the game in an intangible way... the bottom of any tournament roster is mostly filled with forgettable dreck usually.

Always fun to see someone win on tour for the first time.

Whatever this course is in Florida it looks absolutely burnt to shit
It's the Copperhead course at Innisbrook, just north of Tampa. It's a tremendous course. It's by far the hilliest course I've ever seen in Florida. It's a very, very difficult track, despite what you see on TV.

The occasional team golf is fun, a season of it? No thanks.

Besides the money I do not think the PGL has much going for it. Pro golfers at least seem to sort of care about the prestige of the majors which they wouldn’t be able to play in.

Morning foursomes of the Walker Cup have been quite a watch
