And then next hole hits a crappy sand shot and the announcers all pile on about how wedge shaft is too long and he doesn’t hold his hands low enough. Seemed like a clear response of “don’t blame the bunkers you jerk”.
It's worth noting that Bryson was #4 on tour in sand save percentage last year, and including the past two years has saved 60%; tour average is just under 50%. So doesn't seem like his shafts or hands are hurting him too much.

Will be fun to watch. But I like having announcers. I like knowing where the best spot is to land on the green or information they give that just watching them play can’t.

For his next feat, Bryson has talked about playing 18 at Sawgrass down the 9th hole on the other side of the water.

https://golf.com/news/is-bryson-dechambeau-going-to-skip-the-18th-fairway-at-tpc-sawgrass.

He says it is a 310 carry to get there. It would give him more room to land his tee shot and a better angle in. Seems like the biggest hurdle is logistics. I'm not sure where the ropes are at Sawgrass, but theoretically there could be spectators and players on the 9th in the landing zone. secondly, there's not easy path to get there from the 18th tee. It'd be a lengthy walk around the pond. (But he's the fastest walker on tour!!). Finally, it'd be hard to get a yardage for his 2nd shot from over there.

He makes it sound like he won't do it, but we'll see. I didn't think he'd try the monster carry at Bay Hill either.

The guy is a content provider extraordinaire.

Other than the considerable challenges you've identified, the major flaw in that plan is that the grandstands to the right of the 9th fairway would block his second shot. The Golf Magazine article finesses the issue by simply removing the stands from the overhead shot. (Even though they show them in the picture from the 18th tee and mention the stands in passing in the article itself.) But, if he didn't control his distance precisely, the stands would be directly in the way of the shot to the green.

You are right about Bryson being a content provider extraordinaire. Edit: I mean, he got me to write about a preposterous concept for how to play 18 to the point where I felt compelled to go back and edit my post for accuracy and clarity. So, I guess the jokes on me.

I'm not sure it's been mentioned in here or not, but Every Shot Live is free for everyone this Thursday. It's a big undertaking and even if I weren't deeply involved in it I would think it's awesome. It got cut off last year. 4 rounds of it this year will make for great golf watching. No announcers. Just natural sound.

Is this any different than what the Masters does?

Not trying to be insulting...just curious. Its exciting if it is.

Like others here, I am starting to hate Bryson with a white hot passion. Good to have people to root against I guess, so he's got that going for him.

The biggest difference is that it's all live. The Masters is essential a VOD playlist. It's still very cool, it's just not done live.

Nope won't be able to do it....internal out of bounds. I've heard of courses doing this before and making the players play the hole as it was designed.

I could be wrong here but I thought the Masters did a few feature groups like every other event but then also had 2 or 3 other streams showing just a handful of holes (8/9/10 and 15/16 maybe?) with every group cycling through that coverage.

They do, as does the Tour, but last year you could watch every shot at The Masters on their app/website. They just weren't live.

They do .

The Masters has had an every shot on camera thing for I think 2 years now but it's not live.

Hovland just got somewhat saved (he still made a double) by the every shot live thing. His approach into 11 crossed the red line but hit the bank and bounced back into the water. He was certain it crossed the line but the Tour official was having none of it and claimed they had video that it hit the bulk head. Hovland was putting up an argument but heading back to re-play his shot when PGA Tour Live intervened and told the official that the ball 100% crossed the line.

This thing is good so far.

Yeah I'm really enjoying the coverage and the interface.

If this thing is applied to most tournaments I would gladly shell out a membership fee.

You manually choose what group you want to watch. Unless I'm missing something.
Correct. THey have the same camera show every shot from one group live with no announcers. You really get a feel of what it's like following along a single group and being part of the flow.

It's great.

I played Stadium a few weeks ago right before it closed for the tournament. Not from their tees.

Was interesting to watch Phil and Finau just play 7 and have their challenges. This is absolute porn for a golf junkie, particularly if you play courses that are on tour and can watch guys play them. I can't stop watching and I need to get to work.

For example right now Noren's group is on 11 tee. The mic's are picking up their conversation while they wait. Talking about injuries right now and players withdrawing from the players. Zhang is currently shitting on Ryan Moore for being pessimistic.

An may run out of balls. 4 in the water on 17, tee shot on 18 is wet.

Closes with a double. +1 on 17th tee and shoots 83.

Don't recall ever seeing 17 play this tough. A million balls in the water so far today. All 3 players in the Shelton, Lahiri, KH Lee group kerplunked.

Haven't watched it at all... is the wind up today? What is making 17 so difficult? Like-- isn't the general idea to aim for the fat of the green? I know that the only way you get close to the Sunday position is a mishit or being desperate. But to struggle with it on a Thursday?

it is windy....back hole location and the green is extremely hard so balls aren't holding and bouncing over - if you hit it short you aren't guaranteed a 2 putt either

Apparently they redid the green last year and the surface is very hard. There’s a slight right to left wind and anything landing left of the pin just keeps going to the water.

I saw a clip of Mickelson's tee shot. A bit long and left, but it ended up in the grass at the green end of the walkway from the "mainland."

A few guys have been on the walkway today. Cantlay was way down:

I'm seeing on Twitter that the o/u on water balls on 17 for the entire week is around 45. They've got to already be over 20 water balls and we're only 2/3 of the way through the first round.

Nice drive by the genius straight into the water on 9. Not at all sure what sort of physics wizardry explains that stupidity, but all part of the Bryson package.

Morikawa's ball striking is mesmerizing. So good.

Edit: Then he 3-putts from 19 feet after a beautiful iron into 13.
