Morikawa is 4th in the world but sucks at putting. When he gets hit with the putter it’s pretty much game over because his ball striking is so fucking good.

If not for Morikawa, this would have been a pressure-packed finish heading to a playoff. Instead, it was an impressive, stress-free coronation.

Just tremendous playing by Morikawa.

Moriwaka seems like a really good guy and a pretty interesting person as well. And a phenomenal golfer. Easy guy to root for.

He's a truly excellent striker of the ball. You wonder how he would have done over the past 10 months if there were crowds and putting gets a little more tense with so many people watching. But getting 4 wins at his age, so quickly, is beyond impressive. He seems like a legit dude, too. He will be a guy I root for.

Absolutely. Now that he seems to have gotten a grip on his putting, look out. I mean, look out already - having made so many consecutive cuts to start his career, plus already has one major championship under his belt. The kid is great.

The way he won was impressive too. I thought after he basically blew a 5 shot lead on the back 9 on Saturday that he'd have a hard time keeping it together on Sunday and by the time the last few groups were wrapping up it was a drama free, 3 shot victory. On a course that had a LOT of big numbers, that was very impressive.

It's the deepest field they'll have all year on any tour. Biggest purse. Winner perks are identical to the actual majors, with the exception of world ranking points which is slightly lower (80 vs 100) than the 4 majors for no reason other than to protect the sanctity of the 4 majors. The Hall of Fame counts the Players as a major for entrance.

It's only been around since the mid70's so it doesn't have the historical weight of the 4 majors but everything else about it says it's a major. You could probably argue that it's harder to win a Players than a PGA and maybe even a Masters as a professional.

Golfers are measured against their peers by total majors won. That's basically it. For the guys who haven't won a major at least the Players isn't empty calories like the John Deere Classic or whatever. It's definitely something but it's not much next to an actual major.

And who cares about the deepest field? The Masters is arguably the best major in part because it tries to avoid allowing mediocrities into the field.

I think the deepest field matters. The field is the 144 best players in the world. Winning against that group is a heck of an accomplishment, a much greater achievement than winning a regular tour event or even a WGC. Historically, the winners are a the best players in the world.

Stripping away the actual major designation, what is the difference between the PGA Championship and the Players? One's been around since the 1920's and the other since the 70;s? The qualification for both is essentially the same, there's a few less spots available for the Tour pro's because of the club pro's. You get your name on a cool trophy for one, the other you gut an expensive piece of crystal. That's really about it.

I agree the PGA is a weaker major. Pretty much everyone would prefer to win the Masters, US Open, or British Open, unless maybe they've only won the PGA. The designation matters though.

Day lost a ball in the tree. He was leaning on his caddie's shoulders when trying to use binocular's to ID the ball.

I was really hoping we'd see him try to climb up there. EMT's would've had to be on stand by.

Apparently Bryson has talked about possibly trying to drive 6 if the wind conditions were just right. Word is, the wind conditions are ideal for trying. Even Day and Fowler were talking about it. Let's see if he has the stones.

(he won't do it)

He is absolutely stupid enough to try. But I agree that he won't do it unless the conditions are so perfect that he's almost trapped (by his own words) into doing so.

We shall see.

Bryson has 60 yards further in to the green than Rory did.

Weak!

He tried to play it up too. had the driver in hand from the 5th green. Pretended to wait for the green to clear. Took a couple of huge practice swings. Asked his caddie for the carry number on a certain line.

Then bailed out right. shrugged, said maybe tomorrow if the wind is right. He'll never do it, Maybe in a practice round.

Hatton closes with 4 birdies in his lat 5 holes for the old 77-67 to make the cut. Remember kids. when you're feeling glum, pop up a thumb.

Great weekend ahead. Stacked leaderboard and some weather rolling in. Always fun when the wind blows at Bay Hill.

They will have a hell of a time getting tomorrow in. It's supposed to rain most of the day. 78% rain chance.

After carding a 9 on the third hole, Rose walks off the course after 4 holes. My hope is that his WD was due to injury and not a fit of pique after his blow up. (Actually, I’m thinking it has to be.)

Just another weird moment in a day full of them already.

And now Spieth is holing out shots from the sand. Or jarring it, from the sand, as Average Reds puts it. (I know he didn't invent the term but it is an awesome one)
