He could be vaccinated and still test positive, that's just being asymptomatic...

I don't really see the harm in letting him play, these continued COVID rules are dumb.
The tour said in April they would not test players who were fully vaccinated.

This is the info I needed. Fuck him anti-vax sack of shit.*

*Unless he's one of the small number of people who can't be vaccinated. But I'll assume he's just an anti-vax sack of shit since the tour leans hard right.
Ok, so apparently he didn't want to get vaccinated because he wanted to do "research". Lol, I guess Davey on Facebook had a lot to say about the subject. Then he had a close contact this week, which put him in the PGA protocol and he got the vaccine this week because of it. But too little, too late.

I don't understand why these guys would take so much risk. Forget about dying from Covid, athletes don't die from Covid, but you're putting your livelihood at risk. Not just the payout, which is humongous, but a potential PGA win and the FedEx points and everything else. PGA wins are hard to get. Rahm just threw one in the trash because he wanted to do research.

I think it will take a few days for the full story to shake out here... I've seen people on Twitter saying he falls under the close contact protocol and others saying that doesn't apply to vaccinated players.

We may never get the fully story, but there's really no excuse here for John Rahm to not be vaccinated (assuming no legitimate medical reason). He's had months now.

I get that it's the PGA's policy and all the players know it and need to abide by it. But golf is the SAFEST sport to play - you can be separated from basically everyone else, you're outside (which a recent MIT study said means you're basically fine unless you're breathing right in someone else's face). We have full hockey arenas - 18,000 people packed in Nassau right now for Bruins-Islanders, no masks. But there's no way the PGA couldn't, at this point, figure out how to deal with this differently?

I don't feel bad for him if he broke rules and that's on him if he did. And that would be the price he has to pay if he didn't get vaccinated. I just think the PGA probably can find a way to deal with Covid at this point differently, especially considering how other sports are doing it.

I would be shocked if there isn't a Monday morning meeting at PGA HQ to discuss this.

Can you imagine if this was the US Open next week?

I hope they don't and instead strongly remind players that this is the potential outcome of not getting vaccinated.

The NFL is struggling with getting players vaccinated as well. Hopefully this is the high profile example done competitors need to get the shot before events like the Olympics. Imagine an outbreak in Olympic village? I just feel bad for some of the Chinese Gymnasts who can't get vaccinated because they're really only 10 years old.

The anonymous pga pro that writes for golf digest also put the vaccination rate at 50%.

That’s higher than I thought considering the tour probably leans 90% right

Your comparison(s) strike me as completely inapt. There is not a single sport that would allow an athlete, coach or spectator who is known to have tested positive to continue playing/coaching or spectating.

Rahm was subject to testing because it was known that he has a close contact who tested positive. Then he tested positive. Suggesting that he be allowed to finish is ridiculous.

Honestly, the PGA Tour should take advantage of the fact that there is no “basic agreement” with players and mandate vaccinations as a condition of membership.

Anything can happen, but given his lead, the chances that Rahm not getting vaccinated cost him close to 2 million dollars is probably close to the same as the vaccine effectiveness rate --95%.

Branden Grace is on the verge of making one of the great birdies in Memorial history. Drove it way left on 11 and had no shot, hacked out of long rough onto the fringe of the 13th green, and took a big divot out of the fringe in hitting a mid-iron over the trees and water to about 8 feet.

[EDIT - he missed the putt, but still.]

Lexi putted through like 25 feet of fringe because she can't chip. And then didn't even give her 6 foot par putt a chance. That was an awful sequence. Also looked like something I would do.

Right. If Lexi misses, there is still most likely a playoff Saso and Hataoka are not -4.
Yeah I was so focused on Lexi's collapse that I was barely paying attention to the rest of the leaderboard.

Aaand now she somehow leaves a downhill putt short. Holy hell.

I'm going to enjoy rooting for Megha Ganne for years. She seems really cool.
I’m with you on that.

Watched the finish of yesterday’s round with my wife and youngest daughter and they were entranced by her. Just a few minutes ago, my (non-golf fan) wife walked in, saw her make the putt on 18 and said “Oh good, did she win?”
