If Phil somehow wins this weekend - and I agree that his odds are still very, very low - how would it rank relative to Tiger's win at Augusta two years ago? (Or do not think they're comparable?)
Kind of apples and oranges, to me at least.
While Phil wouldn't be coming back from as "low" as Tiger was. Tiger won on a super familiar course where he generally plays well. This course, while a "regular" major venue is not as familiar.
Phil is also 50 whereas Tiger was 43.

Kind of amazed the scoring is as good as it is given the conditions out there right now

I'm interested in seeing how Bryson plays today, and if he has any meltdowns. He tries to be so precise that I wonder how much the wind will end up bothering him.

They gotta start showing Hovland tee shots. The past 3 holes they've gone to him when he's in the fairway and they have to note "he's playing his 3rd (or 4th for the par 5) after finding trouble off the tee..."

Gotta be honest, watching those tee shots into the wind across the carry on #4, I'm just thinking "no way in hell would I reach the fairway".

The idea that 15-yards off the fairway on a random hole can be OB, but you can it it into the fairway of the adjacent hole and still get relief from a temporary obstruction seems so completely backwards.

A few years ago I played Eastward Ho! in sustained 25-30 mph winds. Gusts up to 40. It was a joke. On the into the wind holes it seems better to just skull the ball as far as possible.

Fortunately the wind died down on the back nine and it was a fair bit more enjoyable.
Yeah but how great is Eastward Ho!?

It's great. The land it's built on is amazing and dominates the experience. It runs alongside Pleasant Bay on this hilly terrain with maybe half the holes on the water and the rest are elevated so that you generally have water views no matter where you are. The 10th and 11th were maybe the only holes that wove far enough inland that you couldn't see the bay (but some shelter from the wind was appreciated at the turn). It's really just one good view after another.

The course itself is very undulating to the point where you kind of need to know how to play the bounces/rolls. There's a lot of room to miss on most shots but you can end up spots you're going to struggle to recover from. Someone who plays it often should have a major advantage over someone new to the course. I'm not sure I would want it to be my primary play course but it's the kind of place you can't pass up an opportunity to play.

Anyone see what happened to Rory on 11? Second shot on the par 5 ended 42 yards from the hole in the left intermediate. Somehow, his third ended 31 yards from the hole in a waste bunker that was orthogonal to the line Rory would have been taking to the hole. Here's the shot tracker image.

On that third hole, they showed Louie showing something on his ball to Phil. After he finished he changed out balls. Could Phil have approved Louie changing his ball on the green?

Phil wearing all black is crazy!

Brooks in the near opposite all white seems like a much better choice the weekend before Memorial Day in South Carolina.

The bunker sandy area situation with Phil and Louie was interesting from a rules perspective, and then they both hit it to within a few feet.

Verne Lundquist needs to be done. He's had a great announcer's history. But now he doesn't say anything. He just either makes a grunt noise or says the golfer's name and that's it. He serves no purpose out there.
