He's got a great perspective. He's a guy who reached the summit and was world #1 at one point (might've only been 2 during Tiger's reign), won a major, and also completely lost it and bottomed out. He's become one of my favorite analysts, I wish he did more broadcast work like this. He only does ESPN and Live From for Golf Channel.

Insult to injury, the egret just hanging on the pier didn't even budge as the ball flew towards the water. The bird was like, "You're so in the water, I don't need to change my stance."

Phil grabs a share of the lead and immediately rinses one.

Bogey, birdie, bogey, bogey, bogey start for Corey Connors. It's tough to sleep on the lead of a major. Now entering the really brutal stretch with 15, 17, 18 ahead of him.

Kiawah from proper tees is a ton of fun and a must do bucket list item.

I laugh watching these guys play 17 from 213 out. I played it at 155, I'm a good iron player, and I wasn't sure where to try and land the ball. That is one mean par 3. In comparison, I've played 17 at TPC a few times, and as hard a shot as that is, the approach on 17 at Kiawah distance for distance is as imposing, and they play it 80-100 yards longer.

Also, the line these guys play on 2 off the tee almost isn't visible for your average player who drives it 225-240 and plays an up tee. Our caddy showed it to us and you just shook your head how much of that hole they were cutting off.

Man, there are 40 guys who are +6 or more.

This course is definitely different from last weeks, that's for sure.

Holy smokes. J.T. Poston's approach on 13 took a harsh bounce towards the water, hit the railroad tie, ran along the seam in the tie with grass growing up through it, and it came to rest on a knot in the wood. That's unbelievable.

And ESPN goes to a feature on Marvin Gaye

Yes, he chipped it to a gimme.

Edit: I'm watching on ESPN+ though, no idea about this SportsCenter cross over thing.

Phil is in pretty good shape here if he can get through 8 and 9 without any damage (it's Phil so that's a big qualifier). Grace and the other 3 -4 guys have to go through 15-18.

Last years PGA was pretty good. There were 5-6 guys in contention on the back 9 on Sunday and we really didn't know the winner until Morikawa's tee shot on 16.

There have definitely been a lot of major duds recently though. Really since Tiger's Masters win in 2019. Brooks in a rout at Bethpage, Woodland in a relative rout at Pebble Beach, Lowry in a rout at Portrush, Morikawa at Harding Park, Bryson rout at Winged Foot, Hideki rout at Augusta.

You have detailed it well. The past bunch of majors have been pretty bad.

Here's hoping this one generates some drama this weekend. Scores are bouncing all over the place, so it's possible.

Schauffle hits his first tee shot like a mile right into the swamp and someone says, "I think you'll be alright."

Spieth three putts the last green in a pretty horrendous way.(his 5 foot par putt was genuinely bad, it wasn't even close)

He will likely miss the cut, although it does look like the wind is whipping pretty hard.

He's not going to win, but I think +4 makes the weekend. Maybe +5.

Current cut is 3 but I bet it gets to 4.

On hole 1, the wind was in their face at 27 MPH.

TWENTY SEVEN. That's like video game golf where you jack up the wind to make it more difficult.

A few years ago I played Eastward Ho! in sustained 25-30 mph winds. Gusts up to 40. It was a joke. On the into the wind holes it seems better to just skull the ball as far as possible.

Fortunately the wind died down on the back nine and it was a fair bit more enjoyable.
